Why doesn't Mozilla show download progess?

I find it really annoying. IE has a download progress bar with speed and Firefox has this annoying dialog where the OK button doesn't become enabled until it's downloaded. Anyone know if there's a mod to improve this?

My firefox has a progress bar ? You need to focus on the dialog box.

I get a prog bar, too. I'm not using the latest version of FF, though.

Absolutely no progress bar here, the dialog box has a drop list asking me where I want to save it, that's all. Oh hang on maybe you mean that other dialog box that all the recent files you downloaded. OK well that doesn't pop up in front for some reason. K thanks I'll look into it more.

It doesn't automatically open the downloads dialog box? (as Devil said, ctrl+j will do the trick)

the first thing when i install anything is that i seek the options menu for those things.

the ok remains grey until you attempt to click on it, I think it's a 'security' thing.

what? thats just the windows GUI. buttons get blue border when you hover them and they turn blue when you hit them...

If you don't mind using beta software, Firefox3 (now in its fourth beta) made some improvements on the download system, including progress bar, and resume capabilities.

dont know if i have done anything wrong, but firefox 3 looks EXACTLY like my firefox 2. i didnt even have to import any bookmarks because they were already there !?

That's how all major Firefox revisions have been so far.
(unless you had some extensions/themes that the authors haven't updated to support the latest release)

Yes, grab the addon entitle Download StatusBar, as Mortiis said. It gives you a bar at the bottom of the firfox window with your downloads and some configurable status info.

I'm taking about the button which asks you were to save it, it's greyed out until the download completes. That's on a different popup dialog.

the download button is greyed out until you click on the dialog box as a security measure so naughty scripts can't click on it for you, or something like that.

There should be a new theme for FF3, although it is sad how the clutter of the GUI is starting with Firefox. I'm using a minimalistic gui myself, and I don't like all these fancy UI designers spending pixels on large cute icons. A proper UI is something that is as invisible as possible.
