I want a new TV card

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/I want a new TV card

I have my Sky box (original, not Sky+) plugged into my PC using a normal co-ax cable into the TV card, and the picture quality it crap.

The card is an old Hauppage one, with just a co-ax input.

I've put up with it for so long but I've decided to upgrade -can anyone recommend a card and also tell me the best way to connect the Sky box to the PC for the best picture.

I don't want to spend too much money and I'm not after tons of features, just a decent quality picture and recording ability.

What outputs has the Sky Box got?

I had real problems with TV cards too. I gave up using my PC to tape TV shows and such. I haven't looked in a while for TV Cards, so i'm gonna keep my eye on this thread and see what suggestions you get :o)

www.hulu.com (USA only) or an ATI tv tuner.

The Sky box appears to have a couple of co-ax outputs, SCART outputs, and an S-video plug with 2 phonos for sound. I'm guessing the S-video would be the best and easiest way to do it.

an ATI tv tuner

I didn't know ATI made TV tuners, thanks for the info.

I am using a Pinnacle Dazzle USB TV stick.
I chose the version with analog and digital input and separate flying lead

The lead allows for S-Video and 3.5mm jackplug audio connections. I have connected this to a satellite receiver although I had to buy separate leads to link the two together

Everything works well except for the damn awfull software which is written in Dot Net. The application feels heavy and sluggish to use. The startup time is pretty crap and changing channels takes an age too. It also took me a while to figure out to get the "digital input" to work.
Recording seems to work ok (but again, operation feels sluggish .. i.e, hit record then wait several seconds before the application acts on it)

Hope that helps

Don't watch TV, it wastes your time and drains your life, make ppl lazy like a couch potato....

That's it.
