MAME Cabinet

After several years of laziness I finally decided to build a MAME cabinet...

Did you build the cabinet from a pre-fab design or your own spec?

A friend of mine built a cabinet recently. He used a roller to apply the paint and it ended up accidentally creating a textured finish that looked so professional I though he'd bought some special covering. I could ask him what paint he used if you're interested.

Ugh, X-Men vs. Street Fighter........I've beaten all the machines they have on it at my college campus and I'm *still* wasting quarters on it for some stupid reason.

How are the joysticks on the X-Arcade? Been looking for a good set (one that can take a good beating) with a circular analog base (rather than square).

Cool little project there. Got any plans to add a coin-slot for making it more authentic?

Here are some pics of 2 mini-arcade cabinets I made for my neice and nephew for christmas. It took me almost a year to complete. These ones aren't mame cabs, but JAMMA standard. They're 1/3 size galaga and tempest cabs. One is running a dragon blaze pcb, and the other is running a twin-bee yahoo pcb:

I'm now working on a "die hard arcade" cab for a friend. It has a jamma switch in it so he can run die hard, a two slot neo-geo, or ghouls-n-ghosts at the push of a button.

Haddad that cocktail cab is a beast! I love it. Love the other cabs too. Was the t-molding hard to do? I'm not looking forward to it. Any tips for tight corners? I was thinking maybe if I hit it with a heat gun for a bit.

I've been working on mine for about a week off and on.

Stayne- he used black satin finish apparently.

I didn't have any extremely harsh corners on the cocktail cab. Heat gun and a rubber mallet. If you have a really sharp corner, try cutting out some of the insert on the t-molding.

For tight corners on t-molding, you can cut out some of the back (the bottom of the "T") to make it bend easier. I cut little triangles into it to do mine. No heat gun necessary.

I have also made one for mame. The buttons are made for "kinst". ;)

Inside there is an ATX Board with an Athlon2600+ ,256mb and Ati RageProTurbo with 16MB (PCI). You can boot with MAME (on Win98se) or ARCADEOS (Dos)

The cabinet was from the jap version of "FungFuMaster"

Small update - finally primed and painted. Only think left to do is the front door, t-molding, put everything back in and order/install the marquee. Oh and side art (the most important thing imho).

Bezel is in. Couldn't resist dragging it into my room and spending the better part of the weekend playing Giga Wing and MK3 :). About to order the marquee and side art!

I'm so jealous of you guys - I keep pestering the wife to let me build one of these cabinets, but the answer is always "so where would we put it?", to which I have no (credible) answer....

Nice! Its something ive always wanted to do.

For my A level technology project I seriously considered building a moving seat in the vein of spaceharrier/afterburner/outrun using a stripped old BBC micro board to control the pneumatics/sensors and a PC or console to provide the games.

Got advised by my teacher it was a bit ambitious, damn the man, i ended up using said BBC board to simulate (with working pistons/sensors) an injection moulding process.... BORING! :(

I have plans to make one out of a Snes X-) Excelent work!

I like how the thumb comes in and the buttons just sound good. :O)
