He was a fantastic author, I've read most of his sci-fi books. I'm sad to hear the the news but he had a pretty good innings I'd say.

I used to love his documentary TV series - 'Mysterious World' - with UFOs/aliens, yetis, Bermuda Triangle, etc stuff.

I've never read 2001 but i have the Rama series and a few others by him. it's a good time to re-read them.

A true visionary will be sorely missed.

some folks might not realize this but Arthure C Clarke proposed and patented comm satellite in a geostationary orbit around the earth nearly thirty years before we had geostationary satellites. So yes I think it's safe to assume that our lives would be very different without him. He inspired generations of people/scientists/engineers to go beyond the possible to create the impossible.

He coined the phrase "The technology of a sufficiently advanced society, would be indiscernible from magic to a less sufficiently advanced society." Not quite the exact quote but close.

I'd heard that too. A quick google reveals that the Sunday Mirror published an alleged confession of paedophilia by him, which the Sri Lankan police found to be baseless and which was subsequently retracted. Whether or not there is any more than that would require raking deeper.

Yeah I remember reading about Isaac Asimov's death when I was at school, I loved his books. Also Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers too so he may stop writing at some point (or write some really weird stuff I guess). Quite a few of the author I love have passed as they wrote all the good stuff in the 50s,60s and 70s e.g. Philip K Dick.

As we get older more of the people from our youth will pass away, icons like Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, Ozzy etc and eventually people your own age or younger (movie stars etc) and then you know it's your turn soon...

Yeah me in 2075 if I make it that far. I'd like to see 2050 that's a realistic target but 2075 would be crazy good. It's possible that my sons may even see 2100! wow imagine that!
