Discuss your thoughts on the future of games on the web.

Don't you think that the present already is far more advanced than this?!

Kind of reminds me about 20 years ago, when we went 'Oh my god, it's a spinning cube! In 3D!'

Why not build a castle from bamboo sticks? Building it from stone is better, but nobody has done it with bamboo sticks!

Textures from Wolfenstein 3D and the M16 with hand from the FarCry website? That guy should be careful with claiming a copyright for the work of others.

Other than that, it looks quite nice and works in Safari on my PowerBook G4.

I think you're missing the point. 3D games in Javascript isn't about the delivery of the best technical performance (no script language will ever provide that), but about delivery of 3D multimedia content that is truly cross platform and accessible anywhere. It doesn't matter if you have a Linux box, Windows, Mac, Amiga, your mobile phone or whatever - if the system supports Javascript, you can play the game. Because it's online, you can play your game (and saved games) from anywhere and also compete with other people via AJAX.

Also, this isn't about providing gaming opportunities to the hardcore gamer, but more about opening new opportunities to general people.

Then again, maybe I just think of it different because I work as a full time web developer and not a desktop applications developer :-).

@Game Boy

Yeah I know, I know. It just doesn't fit in my idea about games in general. I personally don't play web games at all.

I was a mainframe programmer for years so I'm basically from the opposite end of the trade. I find interpreted code a waste of processing power.

I'm not into java games either, or flash for that matter. It's good that the technology is developing, but don't feel inspired to learn about it or make one.

Internets getting faster all the time so soon you will be able to use whatever you want to make you games,

Evak you mean the scripting language is getting faster (or computers running it), the Internet is already fast enough ;)
