Nintendo DS - playing downloaded games
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Nintendo DS - playing downloaded games
Hi, is it possible to download (legal) Nintendo DS games that people have programmed from the Internet onto a special memory card so I can play them on my DS? I ask because I saw this:
http://www.zincland.com/powder/index.php?pagename=releaseAnd it said it ran on DS but I didn't know if that was for an emulator only. Anyone know anything about this? Thx
Yes it is possible. There is a special adapter the allows you to plug an SD card into a DS cart. Not got one myself, but know a man who does ;) I am not sure on the legals, but I think it wont be in your favour.
You can get the Revolution4 for DS, its equipped with a microSD card where you can put your programs on.
Sort of. Nintendo aren't happy about it, but it is possible to do. I have a R4DS cart and it works great. There are loads of games you can get. Check out the
NDS Homebrew scene.
I've a M3 Simply which allows that, my GF a R4DS
but I wouldn't get them, but their successors, because their successors support SDHC cards (4GB +), which is a large benefit.
OK thanks for the info everyone, good stuff!
me and my gf both have 8mbit m3 cards. I actually use it for emulation rather than piracy (a fine line I know ;-P )
But nintendo do actualy have demo downloads to DS's wirelessly at trade shows without the need for any extra cartridge. And most DS games allow you to beam a demo of it to another DS that will work fine until they reset their DS.
yes but how many people have an NDS kiosk in their living room?
Nintendo STILL did not release their pre-wii announced NDS demo download capability for the Wii.
yes, nintendo sure are still sucking badly at online features with their products.
There's still only a handful of online enabled games for the WII, and they only let you play against other people already on your friends list, there's no match making service or anything.
And yes, it's criminal they haven't enabled game demo's for NDS through the WII yet, it's just nintendo not bothering to follow through with any ideas they talk about.
There's still not even a hard drive option for the WII, so how the hell are they planning to keep selling virtual console games when everyone's filled up the 512Megs of ram they have?
This is part of the reason I quit the Wii and sold it for a 360. I've never looked back.
As far as I know it IS illegal to download a rom unless you actually own the game.
@u2o: I also know someone that uses this.
@plash: don't think you'll find anyone disagreeing with you there, however, simply owning equipment that enables such behavior isn't illegal. There's tons of homebrew games and apps being created for the DS which Nintendo has no authority over.
They sold me the DS, I will use it however I want short of for piracy.

I kinda like the idea of making my own DS game, just the one maybe... By all account I'd have to use Java?
I have a DSOne. If the hardware was illegal then shops in the UK would not be allowed to sell them. What IS illegal is downloading DS roms and using them, which it DOES allow, but the benefits are wonderful, Something about playing my old NES roms on the DS makes me smile, there are also trackers, and various other apps for it.
OOH! LemmingsDS- *awesome* homebrew game! :-)
By all account I'd have to use Java?
I believe you would have to use C, actually.
Edit: After a quick look at
this, it looks like you could use C++ as well, and there are even ports of python, lua, and basic.
C / C++ are needed and DevKitPro most likely.
that gets you going basically but you will have to spend a lot of time on the ARM papers etc as the NDS hardware isn't anywhere near what you are used on PC especially not as Blitz user, as you are programming on direct interupt level etc on the NDS
Yeah it's probably quite old-skool to program. Like a C64 or something (well maybe more like an Amiga).
don't know, Amiga most likely had more than 4MB RAM for graphics + application, didn't they? (the clock speed might have been the same with the 33mhz )
haha no way, Amiga had 512K RAM for app+video. Clock speed was lower than 33MHz too (like 7MHz or something although the custom chips made up a lot for the low speed). Unless of course you boosted your Amiga up.
@Grey, my miggy was mega boosted (within a budget.... AND it still is in my book, testament to the hardware I reckon) If only Commodore got their marketing a bit better... ahh well, see here:
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=76136@torrente, as i read your thread I was chuckling, I've done space invaders in a teminal in C, and woz considerin developin some C++ by developing my spacinva in c++, it's begiining to look like I've got a reason to bother....
thanks for this:-
