I just talked to a friend who has a studio and he seams to have a talented crew.
Then I thought that there are a lot of game producers who find it really hard to find a good studio.
Being in Romania image that the costs are not very big so you could get a pretty good deal.
This is just a idea so I'd like to know how many of would be interested in something like this.
He can do Voice recording for characters. Sounds for games and even Music.
So the questions is: Would you pay a small price for quality work?
I ask this so we will know whether to set up a site showing you samples of our work or not.
I say it's a great deal. What do you think?
I'd sure pay for a good work of Indie game soundtrack! I think there are not enough freelance artists in the Indie game business.
Great! That's one
I'm really in need for stuff like this as well. After I finish my current game I'll start a bigger one full of different characters so each and one of them will have to speak.
The quality of voice recording mainly depends on the voice acting. Choosing voice actors may be something the game maker wants to do him/herself, it may thus be a problem when recording those actors would imply sending 'em to Romania. Apart from that, someone in a silent neighborhood with a reasonable mic, a modest pre-amp, and a somewhat dead room can record those voices perfectly. A bit o' post-processing will cut out the rough edges and add some brilliance here and there, and there you are: voices for your game.
Soundeffects are more generic (sword clashing, guns, doorslams etc.) and could be provided from everywhere on the world. Not everyone may need custom effects however, it heavily depends on the game. For a match3 one may just synthesize some effect for a marble drop and a match-3 using any of the -even free- virtual instruments today. Added to that, there're also sound effects sample cd's on the market for consumer prices that may well contain any sfx one ever needs. Such a CD may even be cheaper than having someone make them custom for you.
As for music, having a studio has zero value these days. I'm surrounded by over $20000 worth o' musical equipment I haven't switched on in years (absolutely no kidding!), it simply got obsolete. Computers run circles around the instrumental studios of yesteryear. Couple o' friends have equipment that has cost an extra 0, if you get my point, lately they do everything in-the-box, a few computers, and that's it. Even more shocking, they don't even need to be those expensive audio-systems you may see ads from here and there. During summer '06 I bought my current production PC for less than 1000 euro (only the case), and it works like a charm!
There are oodles^2 freelance musicians everywhere, and sneaking-up behind them are even more musicians trying to brag/push them self up. If you haven't ever encountered a freelance musician, then you simply haven't even remotely searched for them. One thing which is true however is that most of 'm just are not authentic in the genre they try to represent.
