model packs
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/model packs
i was thinking about getting in to the business of making model packs. what sort of things would you indie guys be looking for.
I was thinking of human models initially, fully rigged, textured and saved out as b3d, milkshape, 3dsmax maya format etc.
Also pricing, what sort of price for a human model pack, how many items etc.?
What is there most demand for and is there any demand for normal mapped assets?
I figured not as most indie folks seem to be using just diffuse and spec ( I could be wrong).
I would like to find model packs with satisfactory number of models for a project.
To be more specific:
I will not pay for a model pack with 2 to 5 characters with a cost of 50-60€ because it is not a complete solution for a project. However I could pay 120€ or more for a model pack with 10 characters or more.
I am thinking that something like a 10-15 car pack could be something people could use. It could actually be several different packs like racing cars, stuntcars, offroad cars and so on. Not sure what people would pay for it, but there must be plenty of people wanting to make racing games but who do not have the skills needed to make the models.
aqhh ok i get you. so if I went for a medieval theme pack then there should be enough to make a project from it, ie knights , kings, jesters, knights on horses, peasants etc.
would you be expecting a lot of accessorires also or just the basic characters.
if you make characters with animations and several props per character and post it on the Realmcrafter boards you should have some luck selling them, lots of folks over there looking for character models.
A scenary pack would be nice, with stuff you'd actually see in a place. For instance i'm doing an underground cave level, and i'm really stumped for things you'd find in an underground cave.
Made a few boulders myself and a firetorch.
Level parts would be great too. You could fit them together. Cave sections, model of a waterfall, plant sprites etc. Good textures :o)
Want to be my modeller? :D
I'd be happy to see anything but medieval. I've seen enough medieval houses, swords, goblins, knights and villagers to last me a lifetime.
Anything contemporary or futuristic would appeal to me.
SWAT, Hot Blonde Chicks in a PVC, Race car Drivers... something more genrally usable.
"Ruz" clearly needs to make animated characters.
I currently use the Dark Messiah ones:
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=67011That sort of quality would do nicely.
What would speed things up is if you could just make base models that I can attach the animations to. I can decompile and recompile the Arkane Studios animations and then bolt them on as Blitz anim sequences.
Have you considered creating 2D artwork for games and going for the mass indie market?
There isn't a lot of call for 3D games in that sector. But there's a terrible shortage of 2D artists.
But there's a terrible shortage of 2D artists.
I second that... I have had a project on the wall for years due to not being able to grab an artist.
And being from Durham, I'm sure I'd be on your priority list! :P jk hehehe
Dabhand ha ha , unfortunately I am a 3d guy but I suppose i could render out stuff to 2d. (hmm must go and see my mum in durham in the spring. have n't been there for a year)
see, I do realistic stuff, but my wife is a cartoonist and i do occasionally model her stuff in 3d.
but yeah I didn't really fancy making medieval stuff, just more generic characters , perhaps deafult male/female for starters.
puki , I will be making my own anims if i sell my stuff.
Mustang - good ideas - thats the sort of stuff I would like to make.
any need for cowboy stuff?, probably a niche market i guesss.
Ross C - got any paid work for me he he. I do have some generic stuf already, but its a bit more next gen.
Hi Ruz, Why not upload some pictures of what you have done, even if it is next gen stuff, so people can see how your style is.
Good luck! :)
check out the graphics showcase for now nrasool, but I will be having a proper site soon.
One thing that is massively missing is decent base animated character models, something we can all use as a base for our characters that would be animated.
Animations that I would like to see are: Walking, running, crawling, crouching, climbing, climbing a ladder, getting hit. There are loads of animations that would make a good game great.
I have seen loads of blitz games that look amazing till you play them and see the animation that TBH makes the characters look like they were modelled on lego men.
EdzUp - I can certainly address that. give me some time and I will have the required packs for sale.
my anim skills ar a bit out of date , but i have produced 'decent' game anims in the past.
Join forces with me, I can supply you with some of my own already made models that you can take to the next level. I've got barbarians, Dragons, Wolfs, Bear and some other cool looking humanoid beastary. Interested to hear what I have in mind? Let me know! ;)
Either way you are for a tough ride, I've been in this bussiness for 2 years, and let me tell you that you will have to put in shitload of work if you plan to do what the guys here are asking of you, any helping hand I would take it especially from someone who has been doing it for quite some time :)
Didn't Halo/Leadwerks make a tool where you could bind your characters too a skeliton and it had a load of base animations. Took him ages to do, and got a pro animator to make the animations, and I think 1 person bought it.
Is there actually any money in this?
not sure but I think I have the quality , so we will see.
s
eems there are planty of people out there doing it, but most of them seem a bit piss poor:)
This is what I would like to see which I would pay between $80 - $150 for.
I would like to see generic male and female base characters.
No armour or clothing or stuff like that just a base model of a male and female, 1 set to be muscular and one set to be normal.
I would like these models to use as a base for making my own modifications and adding clothes or armour or different hairstyles etc. and basically modelling a new complete character from the base mesh.
It would also help me in that I could study the mesh's to learn how you have contructed them.
I hope that's possible?
yeah thats what I had in mind Amon. I aready have the male done, but its nextgen. will have to knock it down a bit and texture it.
so yeah naked male and female? watch this space
I'm looking forward too see what you come up with :) If you need any bussiness tips or how to make any bucks doing this I'll be glad to offer my experience and advices :)
