More money for Sony if they do, it's just whether or not Microsoft will do so already. Odds are it's just for video playback only though as was the case with the HD-DVD add-on.
Last thing Sony would want are developers porting PS3 games over because the 360 has a bluray drive.

Porting PS3 games to the Xbox? What PS3 games? When you look at the actual amount of available game titles, it's rather the other way around: There's more games for the Xbox 360, and not even all of them are ported to the PS3. (Half-Life 2 isn't, for example, or the whole bunch of Xbox-exclusive titles like Gears of War.)
I think the strongest selling point for the PS3 still is that she's a cheap BluRay movie player.

The PS3 has a distinct advantage as a home media system as well as a games console ATM. Sony want to get Blu Ray established in as many homes as possible as quickly as possible before the Blu Ray "window" closes. If Xbox 360 owners can easily access Blu Ray that opens a much bigger market for Sony. At the same time Microsoft don't want to concede the home media ground to Sony. Also Sony will definatly make money selling the Blu Ray drives (both bundled and unbundled) to Microsoft which will be a nice change for them.
Many customers want to buy a blu ray player ATM but are looking for a cheaper route into the market.
So it makes sense for both of them to look at sorting out an Xbox 360 solution for Blu Ray.

So someone finally finished the PS3 port. Good for Sony. The last thing I heard is that Valve had cancelled their own PS3-port of HL2, and that Gabe Newell was not in the least excited about the PS3 as a software development platform and that he also was not very fond of Sony's hardware design in general. Since Tim Sweeney said very similar things about the PS3 in a presentation that he gave, basically calling the cell processor a 'hardware design done by the marketing department', I doubt that Newell's comments have something to do with him being a former Microsoft manager who's still loyal to his old employer.
Anyway. If you google for 'Gabe Newell PS3 HL2' or something like that you'll find tons of articles about the topic.
I'm still completely with Bill Gates on the BluRay/HD-DVD topic. It's going to be the last physical media. But I also think that Steve Jobs got it completely right and that it really doesn't matter at all. Legal movie downloads in HD quality make both formats obsolete, and both formats came at least five years too late to be of any real significance.

perhaps they stamp blu-ray's so you cant stick em in DVD drives to work on hack's cracks and stuff
just cos you can fill em with way more than a DVD dont mean you have to fill it
id rather have one DVD rom than 2 CD rom's any day (cost of manufacuring is double for the CD edition cos the manufacturing techniques are nigh on identical)
im guessing also that the ps3 is one of if not the cheapest blu-ray players about as people seem to be touting it as "oh you can also play games on it too"

According to the developers of Metal Gear Solid 4, Blu Ray isn't big enough for them with 50GB. Personally I think that has to be bull or MSG4 hype; I can't see how any game can need that kind of space unless MSG4 is going to be chock full of HD FMV which would make it dull to play.

Yes, you're wrong. All PS3 games come on blu-ray disks.
the only studio that needs blueray and can't remain on dual layer dvd is square enyx with their final fantasy. they were the only ones that ever were forced to drop localization on a product due to size constraints of the disks ;)

The day they stop getting 14 year olds or chavs to design games consoles then is the day I might buy one. There is no way on Earth that I'd put something as ugly as a xbox360 or ps3 in my lounge.
I don't understand why they can't make a selection of transports and have the games console as a black box that you hide in a corner somewhere. Then the transport just has you dvd / blueray, game ports, etc.
Games consoles are just horrible, why not take a leaf out of Cambridge audio's design book and make something attractive.
The demographic for ps3 and xbox 360 are the 25+ single males (ish) who surely would strive to have bang and olufsen, cambridge audio, nad, etc in their lounge not fisher price toys.

Some of the cut scenes in the other MGS games did get a tad boring...
I quite like the Wii design wise. It's small compact and doesn't try and stand out like the other two. Nice size so you could dump it in your bookshelf or something when not in use.

What are you talking about? The Blu-Ray drive in my PS3 has no problem with DVDs.

Are all xbox360 developers limiting themselves to 4 GB for a game, or whatever the maximum for a DVD is? Surely this will be a draw back eventually when the level of content for games goes up, as it always does.
With 40-50 GB for PS3 developers to work with, there is surely no chance of PS3 games getting ported to the xbox360?

Also the PS3 plays DVD's fine just like the Xbox 360.
Ross, I don't think many software companies current feel that Dual Layer DVD (Capacity 8.6GB) is currently really a limiting factor. Blu Ray's main asset to software developers is that Blu Ray acts as some copy proection, the downside is the high cost of Blu Ray disk production vs DVD.

cos tbh i cant see either cd, dvd, blu ray or hd dvd costing any more or less than each other when all it is is a stampped image going plonk plonk plonk on an assembly line
dual layers taking a bit extra due to the two disc's involved
hence my distaste of early bird releases being bloody expencive
even old films on new formats are bloody dear compared to the cheap dvd and you have no guarantee that its been remastered to hi def and not just on a hd disc
and blu ray NOT playing dvd's ... poison challace for the bloke who thought that one up ... hence why its utter twaddle
