OK guys, need a nice hosting service in the UK. Been with fasthosts but they only provide 8mb of PHP memory, and I need 24MB minimum for a good drupal run (and also some other systems that require this amount to run well)

I know its a bit of a strange requirement that not usually advertised, but if anyone's had some really positive experience with a company giving them that 'little extra' to get their system to work, then please post up :)

Thanks

I've used Powweb for a few years now; www.powweb.com and have had no down time in recent memory, and they just keep making their package better and better. By default the PHP memory limit is set to 10MB but you can just edit your php.ini file and set memory_limit to 24.

I think Powweb is great, too, but it's US based, which is actually an advantage with the exchange rate. Why does the hosting need to be in the UK?

TBH it doesn't need to be UK based. powweb do sound good with a nice open system

Hey there Chris! Long time no chat.

I've been using Host Dime to host sites for my clients. Reasonably priced, and fantastic customer service.

... ooohhh... I wouldn't touch them if I were you. They're just a reseller of Fasthost and provide very bad customer service.

I used these guys when I first bought hosting - all was fine until I actually started using the hosting for my website. Here's what happened:

* All of their PHP error reporting was switched off and they had some weird server settings which stopped scripts that worked on other hosts from working.

* I asked them to correct this - they tried, but ended up taking my website offline for between 24 and 48 hours. I tried to asked them if the would resolve the issue, but they just kept fobbing me off.

* I had issues with some e-mail disappearing from my account - they deny this, but it did happen.

* I told them that I didn't want to renew my hosting with them, but they still tried to take the money from my account anyway. Fortunately I changed my account details on the system before I switched hosts - however, I've read that they have done this to many people and not given their money back.

... so that is my case. I now use Donhost - who seem pretty good.

What scares me most about fasthosts I reckon is that they aren't the worst out there....

If you have lots of money then rackspace is the way to go, brilliant service, expensive though.

Mediatemple are pretty good, decent service and I've never seen downtime with them.

I would recommend powwen also if it weren't for my site running slow all the time. I don't even get decent download speeds when downloading from my site.

It all seems sluggish and sometimes graphics don't show up properly.

I would look at Godaddy for hosting. When I had a site with them it was faster than powwebs and the download speeds from fast also.
