Remove systray icon?

I downloaded a shockwave update last week and now I have a completely pointless icon in my systray - it doesn't do anything if you click on it.

How do I remove it?

I've looked in the start up list in msconfig but it's not listed. I suppose I need to do some reg hacking?

More of a rant than a useful response but, pointless systray icons are my biggest pet hate, just after installation apps not letting me choose where to install something... BAH!

Problem solved finally...

1) Go to MSCONFIG, it is listed as something like ctfmon (the filepath should be windows/system....

2) Restart your computer when it asks you to, and that annoying little un-deletable thing will not pop up.

3) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed

4) There should be a folder called Shockwave 10, assuming thats the latest edition you've downloaded. Go into it and you should see a file called something like PostUpdate (it will be carrying the same symbol that was previously shown on your taskbar)

5) Now that the program is not running, you can delete the little bugger without any problem!

and

alt + ctrl + del click on process, click on PostUpdater then end process
goto C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\PostUpdater.exe and delete it
this is the stupidest thing come out of adobe, doesn't give you any option when click on it.

Hmmm. I don't seem to have that file listed in MSCONFIG. :/

I remove it in task manager and delete PostUpdate.exe.

It's easier and requires no reboot.

Me too.

Also, programs which auto-start never ever use the Start > Programs > Startup folder
I can't remember the last time something used that root

Noooo. They instist on hiding themselves deeply in the registry so you end up hacking away with RegEdit hoping not to stuff the O/S up on next reboot

I prefer the question:
why why why did they build a system that allows so many cryptic and round-the-back ways of doing/allowing it in the first place? The fact that a program a user is running has permission to access areas like the registry & sys-services without 'authorization' is an appalling design flaw. Anything like this should only be allowed to insert it into the users 'startup' folder, unless authorized.

Which is kind of what u said too, just thought id elaborate :)
