I now work in the shed :O (and I'm proud of the hard work)

I work in what equates to a cave, no natural light and a slightly leaky roof (despite builders having 'fixed' it).

Like the idea of the mirror - makes the place look bigger...
Also looks like a spot where you could get some serious work done!

I work in the house. To be honest if I was bringing in the dosh and my wife suggesed I moved into the shed I wouldn't be right pleased.

That would last about 2 days here before everything would be stolen.

Probably explains why he barred the windows. That is one funky tree outside there btw. Looks to be an awesome workplace though, no interruption from the real world aside from phone calls, and the misses banging on the door for you to get to bed. All it needs is a fridge for drinks!

Same comments regarding the insulation, hope that shed holds well during the winter with what appears to be just that one heater (above the whiteboard), although given the tree in the picture, I'm assuming the climate is warm all year round?


As for me, I do my (home)work in this barely lit residence room, so no frills or feelings of self-accomplishment here.
(and apparently 3 lamps is not enough to light my drafting table enough to my satisfaction. I'm always constantly adjusting this one lamp as to suit my positioning when drawing lines)


Your shed makes me want to actually renovate my bedroom at home to be more suitable for working in (such as getting a corner desk). Where my room currently stands, it's a hell of a mess with junk all over the place, and a wall that's falling apart.
(not to mention a slanted floor, which drove me crazy to the point that I can't stand to do layouts at all as my chair kept rolling into the decline)

I did have an office set up when I was self employed, which I done most of my programming on, but since I've went full time again I got rid of my desktop and now have two laptops, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.

So if I fancy a bit of peace and quiet or pre-kip programming, I work upstairs, but otherwise, I stretch out on the floor with a few cushions and type away in front of the TV! :)

I'd worry myself stupid about security all the time, though - especially when going on holiday, etc.

It seems you've got some good security there but sheds seem to act like magnets to thieving scum.

As for security I used to work for a building suppliers and couldnt believe the amount of customers coming in to buy replacement sheds.

The Dirty little bums you know the ones with that horrid accent who offer to pave your garden in stolen materials for twice as much as it worth. Anyways they would turn up with a mini crane and steal the whole shed this including contents then fit the shed as new for another victim for more than its worth.

Bolt the bugger down use slabs and concrete as ballast hey build a bunker lets see them dig down 6 feet to steal it :)

It looks like you have done a really good job. However, I would worry with it being in a shed. Not from just the thieving, but also the cold and damp.

Before you put any computers in there, make sure your household insurance will cover it should you suffer a burglary, etc. You could come a cropper and not get paid out!

I converted my garage (which is in the back garden), and spent a small fortune. I bolted the front garage door in about 30 places, sealed it, installed a heavy stud wall behind it, installed a ring main & network points, false floor, insulated the floor, walls and ceiling, plastered the walls and ceiling, added security lights and alarm. It cost a fair amount, and took several weeks for me to do it, but it was a lot less than an extension on the house! I also got it covered on the home insurance.

It's warm, and a great place to work and escape to!

BTW, where do you keep your lawn-mower now? :)

Alas, the frame does not quite include my 8 year old useless-desktop-gone-server (or the Nintendo DS above it which now serves as its only connection to the physical world, thanks to SSH). Still, I think there is a fantastic amount of stuff crammed onto this one desk.
