When should you change your games name?

One of the Amiga mags back in the day came with a game on the cover disc by the name of 'Girl Actions' with a suggestive picture on the title screen. The game itself was a space invaders type affair.

More of a Galaxians type affair. Which is what "Girl Actions" sounds like if you say it fast. Pretty sure it was on Amiga Floormat.

Used to play a game called Moonstone (the sword fighting one). In between levels it used to give you little hints and stuff - one of which was "Beware the fierce Baloks of the northern wastelands".

Always good for a giggle.

I recently replayed it, I still find it a damn hard game, especially having never been able to defeat the dragon.

Ah Moonstone. That was a classic. Hard as nails, but a classic.

Well, it was a stupid name for a game and the connection was a bit weak. :) Took me a while to figure it out at the time.

I remember Moonstone. Good game but like you guys say it was a bit hard.

Seriously? I thought if the game didn't crash so often it was relatively easy.


It's a common case of finding the right swing, running away, lining up the next swing, running away, etc, until you can get it into a particular 'corner' whereby it doesn't get a chance to attack inbetween swings... Same with the end boss...

Yeah I saw that too and though, hmm wonder if it'll make it on Big Fish Games with a name like that ;-)

I have a thing about game names. I try my best not to work on games that have names that could cause me harm or are predicting doom.

Some examples;

Atari - Tank
Jaguar - Fight for Life
3DO - Crash & Burn

I worked on a couple of games that had names that came true;

DS9: "The Fallen" (every single person on the team has since quit the company)
Bad Company (yes, it was)

Oh and it's not a game, but a friend of mine has a personalized license plate on his Lotus that says, "F'N BRIT" Silly DMV must think it means "Fun British Guy" or something?

Ah, the classic moonstone, yes shame it crashed so often. But I found the game pretty easy what you knew what you were doing. The 4 moonstones are always in the same places on the map and after that, time to visit the centre of the game and you're done, and you don't even need to kill the dragon. Buy the best sword from the shop and armour but nothing else, otherwise the game just gets harder. Biggest challenge of course was trying to complete it before it crashed :)

I always thought it was a shame you couldn't both (say in 2 player mode) go into a particular location. Where are the sequels?! :)

Ah yes we always had that one to chuckle too as well whilst the game loaded. I also liked the one that was something along the lines of "Seal your fate" because of the font it looked similiar to "seal your face".
Oh and "Beware of the Dark Knights", but they were already dead! Oh how we laughed.

Twitchfactor: I know what you mean, I'm always dubious of names which sound a bit too negative too seeing as you'll be looking at those words for months on end every day :-)

I am the programmer of bolax.

My level of english is low and did not know that bolax is similar to "testicles"' (Bollocks) in english.

In spanish bolaX is similar to ballZ. A graceful form to say balls.

I believe that it will change the name. ;)
