Fellows...

I like nothing more than to fire up some of the old 8 bit emulators and play some of the 8bit titles I loved back in the day. Most companies seem to turn a blind eye to distribution of these old titles, but very few have actually been declared free for non-commercial use.

I would like to see more made free and I know a few people who frequent this site were involved with commercial 8 bit titles, so if you're in a position to give permission or can point me in the direction of someone who has the authority to make that call, I would REALLY appreciate it. I'm especially interested in Amstrad CPC titles, but anything that's going...

Some ZX Spectrum games have been given permission for distribution by the original authors:

Plus the ZX Spectrum ROMS are legally allowed to be distributed, permission was given by Amstrad. Again, see the World of Spectrum site for more information.

Hope that helps.

Hi Avon. I'm mainly after new additions but it's definitely useful to know what's already out there! Thanks for the link.

This seems to be the current state of play for Amstrad CPC titles:

Oops, I mis-understood. I did write a couple of 8-bit text adventures on the Speccy (one based on "Day of the Triffids", the other a spoof detective adventure based on Hercule Poirot), and would gladly let them be distributed - except I lost them about 19 years ago! The plus side is they were rubbish anyway.
