Audio VU Meter

Is there a small example available somewhere on how to make a simple vu meter?

And are there any advice what Mod/DLL is best to do this job with locations where the needed files can be downloaded?

I want to use this in the future for wav/mod files if possible

I will probably will need bass.dll for this, but I hope there is a freeware option if I would decide to make my software commercial in the future... (maybe audiere.dll?)

I found the midmaxmod topic and played a bit with it, this is easy to use when using .mod files because of the small example included.
