3DMark Vantage - Developer Diary: Technical Demonstrations HD

"Learn about geometry shaders, realistic cloth simulations, and more!"

The last few seconds are pretty smart.

Maybe this is a nice guy but in the video he comes along as ...

By the way i had more luck watching those:

I still like the colours and the high res texture on the planet. Are the dots driven by the geometry shader?

Boring, but I can't tell you until it is released... as usual. Dev Diaries will reveal something new in every episode, I posted here ep2 - there was/is also DD ep1.

Hmm but do you mind if i ask how large the texture on the planet is? Is the whole planet uv mapped at the same resolution or is it just a certain angle? Okay i stop... :O)

yes they are as they point it out themself.
but I don't think NVIDIA and ATI will like a DX10 based one ... they fight for position 1 but with their current cards, the ratings would be quite crappy compared to those on 3DMark 06

What? They love it! 3DMark06 is DX9 Benchmark and you can't and shouldn't compare results from that to 3DMark Vantage or even 3DMark05 results. If you haven't noticed both vendors are selling DX10 cards - and have been doing that a long time already... :)

Every new DX has it's own dedicated Benchmark to test that DX generation features, always has been like that and will be in the future.

Well, actually one sells DX10 whilst the other one sells DX10.1 cards. I wonder how much of a difference this is in the benchmark.

none ... by the time they have out vantage, DX11 will be released ^^

no really its little difference for DX10 stuff. DX10.1 adds a few new things that are most likely very unimportant to most anyway as their performance isn't satisfying enough to integrate them now and "tomorrow" DX11 will have taken over that stuff with a cleaned up really new API

Well, i don't know as i don't own a DX10 card yet but i guess some of the cards are fast enough whilst others aren't. Beside of this the update is around the corner and it will go through the usual dev cycle they've established.
