1Up's indie game coverage at GDC

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/1Up's indie game coverage at GDC

Interestingly, the 1Up Show's GDC stuff (episode of about 3 days ago) consisted almost entirely of indie games. There are definitely some great games coming up, and I think it goes to show that PC gaming is by no means dead; just that old designs on PCs are dead. The PC games market is no longer in sync with console games.

I like their contrast of EA's giant meatball vs. an ingenious 2D in 3D sidescroller / spatial puzzle :)

What I like is their point on "a few years ago, a profit of 200k was called a success, now they look at Halo 3 and ..."

Thats so true ... now they assume that every AAA must make millions to be a success instead of just giving profit + reputation.
They somehow do not seem to get the mouth to mouth propaganda factor or its importance anymore, just "too large" to see the tiny but important parts.
Still believing that if they pay 90% of the magazins, they will do it ... thought most start to ignore them more and more (only buy print mags for the games on the discs, not to read the bla)

but very interesting stuff in general in there.
Seems like steam gets more and more an important Indie Platform.

The best and most interesting games are released on consoles these days. There is still a place for PC gaming these days, but it grows increasingly narrower and less interesting as time goes by.

Hmm not really ... the indie sector is much stronger on PC and they are the only ones creating innovative titles (if we exclude the wii / NDS). GoW2 is just, as they mention "a shiny meatball" ... its not interesting nor innovative. Its just another game for the list of things that millions were wasted on.
Fable 2 itself might not be that great as well but it will surely have a strong influence on the future RPGs so its a good thing :)
