I'm looking for space games, know of any?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/I'm looking for space games, know of any?

Hi

few months ago I saw amazing videos of space opera game in development. Videos as good looking as Eve if not better, with epic and grandzio views and settings-.

Could you please list here of any space game that you know of that are looking amazingly good, either existing games or those still in development.

I already know about Eve so you dont need to mention that one. If you can provide links to screenshots or videos.

Have a look at this game called infinity. The dev blog there is worth a read, full of intresting information!. The game is still in development and is ment to be some sort of mmorpg.

This looked interesting (if you liked elite+frontier) i didnt have time to play it much other than do a few training missions but it -looked- quite good.

Sins of a Solar Empire
Galactic Civilizations 2

These are pretty awesome.

X3: Reunion and I'll second Galactic Civilizations 2 - fantastic game.

Battleships Forever!

Fun game, stupid name.

Free Lancer, Star Lancer, Free Space 2, The X series and the Home World series,

If you have a 360 there's Mass Effect.
If you want a free PC game and are a fan of Elite there is Oolite.
Or you can wait for my game Deepspace: Life on the Frontier, but that might be a long wait ;) hee hee

I just bought X3: Reunion from Steam - $19.90

I've never understood X3's navigation. Though the graphics are excellent, the interface is crap!

X3 isn't a game, it's a spreadsheet with a front end that happens to look like a spacegame ;-)

Deepspace looks cool!

I really liked X3 but never had the time to play it. It's pretty good once you have a bunch of ships and can send you fleet around the galaxy trading on your behalf whilst you have all the fun doing pretty much what you like.

What it really lacks is planet landing, Someone should take John J's Ogre planet rendering scene manager and do it right ;P

I've been keeping a close eye to Infinity for some time now. It takes the Newtonian approach of Elite II Frontier, but tries not to repeat its mistakes. I-War 2 and Terminus are good examples showing that there are ways to do realistic space simulations that are fun to play.

If you're into hardcore space games, I also recommend you to take a look at Vega Strike, which is an open-source Frontier-like game. It's still in progress, but it has been playable for years now.

Also, if you don't mind a top-down approach in space games, click on my signature link ;)

Freespace and Freespace 2 if you are looking for mission based single player, X3 if you are looking for single player sandbox, probably Eve for online.

Freelancer is nice and easy to play, X3 is good too.

There is always loads of other free space games if you do a google on em :)

I liked what they are doing with Infinity, I hope that they do not give up on the project.

The game that I was looking for is X3, thanks for bringing it up, I've have forgotten what it was called, now I know :)

Haven't played it, but the video trailer for Space Force: Rogue Universe has a space opera look about it.

There's a few other videos on steampowered with a similar theme.

(Off topic) One of my favorite videos from that page is Team Fortress 2: Meet the Engineer.

The reviews have been very 'meh' about it - apparently completely unoriginal and it can be difficult getting started.

Yeah, there are surprisingly few space games with planet rendering capability that allows you to explore the planets surface and enter/exit seamlessly from space. Hopefully this will change ;)

Jumpgate (The older version)

Jumpgate Evolution - The newer version currenty going BETA
