Copy/Paste the link, as the forum isn't liking the format of it apparently regardless of code tags used.

In Europe at any rate.

Of all the platforms on Wii's Virtual Console, I'd have never expected to see them offer C64 titles.

I'm not sure what they're thinking up there, but if you ask me, charging a full $5 for a single title that's a decade-or-two old in their current state.
(I have a hard enough time justifying $5 for NES titles on the thing)

Shame it's only happening in Europe, as I wouldn't actually mind having Stunt Car Racer just for nostalgia reasons.
(with all the tape-loading skipped through via the wonders of emulation)

5$ ... haha good joke. Its 400+ upwards and as USD -> EUR are handled 1:1 in that point conversion its even more expensive here ...
The pricing system is a joke anyway. Compared to XBLA titles, Nintendo is a damned Ripoff Company when it comes to the virtual console. 8bit titles for anything more than 3USD is a bad joke especially if they haven't been reworked nor gotten anything.

They announced this a long time ago, I thought they would have them online by now. Never knew it was for UK only, that sucks.

Anyway, check out the latest thing, you can turn your Wii into a media center by streaming from your PC to TV via Opera. I tried it last night and had video and music playing on the TV in full screen (after turning on nav bar auto hide in Opera). This is one of the coolest things I've found yet for online Wii.

Ohhhh, I love retro gaming from that era, depending on what titles are available, I'd probably splash wii points on them.

More notably, Dizzy series up until Magicland Dizzy, Barbarian, some of the CodeMasters simulator games... To be honest, more than I can think off! :)

Dabz

They announced this a long time ago

Only thing I recall in the past was a couple C64 titles being updated for WiiWare in May, not actual VC games.
(one of them being Impossible Mission iirc)

Anyways, never actually bothered trying the media center thing, but I'm assuming it's just a clever system that makes use of Flash to do its business with your PC via the net?

How can they justify 400 points for less than 64k of code?

I wax nostalgic about my old C64/Atari 8-bit games, but the reality is that they're better left as memories or at least in short spurts. Most of them really don't hold up and they're often so simple that there's something comparable out there or a free retro-remake.

Speaking of price, yeah $5 is a bit much for some old dusty game that comes complete with all of the glitches and poor interface that it had before. And once you pay for something, your view changes on things, so a lot of those "trips down memory lane" will be even more scrutinized.

I really don't understand old C64 games on the Wii... it just seems silly to me.

I guess it's about getting fast a piece of the retro market. If you pick out the right ones then there are still some pearls with a great gameplay and this is something i haven't seen in the majority of the Wii games and they are small in filesize. The only thing which doesn't make sense to me is the high price.

I wonder if this will bring up any new discussions about those sites which offer the old games for free for emulator usage.

Stuff like that justifies my M3 Simply more and more to bypass ripoff by using the emulators directly ... thought I am still thinking about investing in a GP2X F200 ...
