I hope that 'thing' in the background isn't his new PC.
Traded good from Lave?
Have a medal, Mutley!
Meh more empty promises from Braben, that's not news,a new elite game has been "in development" for years. If you want to play a modern version of Elite buy X3 which is a very close approximation.

I bet you its going to be dumbed down and reduced to star systems with loading time between jump gates or something. He's going to give you automatic docking computer right away, and an easy auto-kill button if the fights become too hard.
You'll also never die, if your ship gets destroyed, you'll be instantly cloned and given a ship for free.
Im a pessimist today :p

A new version, Braben continued, would certainly need a better interface, or at least one which is easier to use for modern gamers.
Are they calling modern gamers dumb? Elite wasn't hard to play at all. I played it on the amstrad when I was 10. Then the awesome Frontier Elite II on the Amiga.
I'm wanting multiplayer, auction house style sales, group missions, space guilds, etc, basically WoW in space, and don't anyone talk about Eve, I hated that game.
Noooooo!
I will spend too much time playing this!!

Elite back in the 80ies, confirmed that he will do a modern version of his classic title.
Really? Because it seems to me that just about every space game since then has been more or less another version of Elite - which boils down to scrolling the screen until a shape comes into view - hold down the mousebutton - watch it blow up. Occasionally get a screen full of figures - work out how to increase a 'money' value, rinse and repeat.
Reckon developers need to forget about the 'Elite gameplay model' actually because its been done to death.
Elite was great. Let's see what he comes up with.
But I must say that I am more interested in the Gears of War 2 announcement that's now on top of the page.

I would be interested in a Dungeon Siege 3 as well. Maybe The Dig II too and... ;O)
Dungeon Keeper 3 thank you.
This will most likely be as X360 Exclusive as GoW 1 ... rofl
Elite 4 has been "in development" the last 10 years. You'll be able to buy a real spaceship before Elite 4 sees the light of day.
Also since Elite games have gotten progressively worse (read less arcadey, more simulationy) I don't exactly have high hopes for Elite 4.

I liked Frontier on a third try.

... which is exactly I liked Elite II and FFE better than the original. Newtonian space simulations have their very own hardcore fanbase. I'm using the word "simulation" in it's true meaning - the X-series doesn't even come close to it even though the fans like to call it that.
Braben knows Elite 4 will be the least successful game of Frontier Developments, but he'll make it out of passion for the genre if nothing else. The series is his pet project. The only reason he's able to keep on making sequels for Elite is because FD is his company. He would've been shot down a long time ago if he was just hired project manager for a big publisher.
I'm a die-hard fan of the series, which is probably why my current Blitz project has taken some heavy influence from it ;)
