Although, given the included list of famous Mac users, I'm not so sure anymore...

But I also think that there´s a lot of truth in this. However, the article would be more credible if there were some links to actual background information.

I dont understand why everyone keeps saying "Macs and PCs" as if its a different thing, a mac IS a P.ersonal C.omputer the same as an amiga or a spectrum were "PCs".
Its the literal equivalent of comparing an "F15 Strike Eagle" to a "plane"!

hehe, I have to say, Most of the gadget loving younger mac users I have met in person have a very big superiority complex. I don't know many though. Most of the mac users are middle aged - elderly psychologists, psychiatrits, social workers, plus the odd auntie. Strangely I don't know many artists that use Macs.

A decade ago they were pretty much forced down your throat at design college and lecturers would pretty much say that any 3D film sequence be it a short film or movie shown in their lecture was done on a mac. No one was learning 3D back then so many a student left university non the wiser.

I think there is some truth to it. But really, i dont think the type of computer a person uses would REALLY affect them that much. Im a pc user, and im pretty sure im alot like how they described the mac users.

And quick question. How can you be modest, and sure that your superior to everone else at the same time?

While they have some minor differences, they mostly contradict each other. Am i right?

..well..for me, chick is a chick..it may be different color and shape, but its still a chick..similarly, MAC or PC..both of them are stupid computers, just in different shape, but still need ya to manage them...and of course..chick rulez...computers suck anyway :)

in the old days it was because of what was written predominantly for what system

ST had MIDI built in Amiga did not so ST's have the largest 16bit MIDI market by default

Mac's were alwasy sold as DTP graphic artist etc work
afaik Adobe started there and eventually migrated when pc's started to get better GFX wise

now you can get hard/software to get your pc to do nigh on anything and mac's get labled 'niche elitist machines' more than they used to 10 years ago

the first ipods were mac only till they realised that although the market was saturated on windows compatible mp3 players they could still shift bucket loads more to wintell users than native apple

sony and other big names make flash based lcd players offering upto 16gb for not that much less
guess where my thinking led me
(i originally coveted the 60gb creative DAB many years ago but never got round to buying one)

I have issues with it
you cant drag and drop like normal usb players
it has to be sync'd and leaves files with random names in random folders
if i were to sync it on another itunes installed pc it would wipe my drive clear of all songs not on that system
but im guessing both of thoes two bugbears are actually some alternate DRM-esque technique

but on a plus side i can use it like any other HDD and i dump my cd quality wav's from my H4 digital 4 track into a folder and i can copy them at a later date to any pc instead of carting around some cdr's or the SD's

and i filled it with pics of pussy ... a comment that ewed some girls at work till i showed em my brothers 2 cats (and 2 dogs) and my festival pics so i can show people on the move instead of telling em about my in vast need of uploading flickr site

I don't understand why everyone thinks Macs look so pretty tho'. I can only assume it's because 20 odd years of PC dominance made us accept that PC's should be ugly. The A1200 had more style than any other computer before or since. QED.

Well, I think Macs and OS X look good, and it certainly is one of many reasons for me to stick to the platform.

But the killer argument to use a Mac is... Aperture, now in version 2. If you're into digital photography, Aperture 2 is -the- killer application. Neither Lightroom nor Lightzone come close to it, and PhotoShop servers a different domain nowadays, it's become an extension tool.

Aperture 2 simply ends the platform discussion for me: It's got to be a Mac with OS X.

I, myself, am going back to Windows (assuming the machines sell on eBay, that is), due to many reasons. But the upshot is I need a faster machine.

What have you got a G4 mac because id say on the whole macs are the same speed now.

Ive used both and macbook pros run xp and vista just as well as any other laptop. ok i know they are expensive but its only like the premium sony or other companies put on their domestic goods, just for the name. plus OSX is more stable in audio recording ive used quite a few programs on PC and nothing is as stable as my friends Logic setup.

Its really is about what you want the system to do, games is a easy choose it has to be windows. but 3d rendering / animation or video or audio id really edge towards a mac pro. the quad core Mac pro is almost £2000 but for rendering detailed scenes with complex lighting is so quick it has to be seen to beleaved.

I've got an Intel iMac.

I think there is something to be said in that Mac users probably like to see themselves as 'non mainstream' and this could also mean they go for the less 'popular' brands most of the time.

I like the Mac because it is a no fuss platform, but I also use Windows and Linux. That article is annoying in that it seems to reflect those most sold on Apple marketing than regular Joes just using the platform because they like it. I'm surprised the boffins at Mindset Media didn't find Mac users more likely to self fellate in combination with the other douchey things.
