Blank Licence Agreement from Electronic Arts

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Blank Licence Agreement from Electronic Arts

I'm just installing the Collector's Edition of Battle for Middle Earth 2.

The Licence Agreement pop-up came up at the start of installation - ie press Yes to install or No to quit - but it is blank/empty.

There is no licence readme on the disk, the installer is calling a file that doesn't exist.

It says 'Please read the following licence agreement carefully'.

It then says 'Do you accept the terms of the preceding licence agreement?'.

Considering it is blank - what does this mean? Effectively, I have clicked Yes to a blank Licence Agreement.

Surely, EA have not shot themselves in the foot over this? Is a licence agreement actually vital or not - ie in what possible way are they/the product at risk? What does the licence cover that isn't covered by copyrights/trademarks and the law, etc? Is the licence just because different countries have different laws?

Under international law, if you sign a blank contract with a company, then the company is allowed to dictate whatever terms they want, and you will be legally bound by said terms. You have essentially just signed a contract with the devil! Woe is Puki! You have my pity.

Sniffing-nora!!!

The main reason I installed it was to grab the media.

they use that tacticts in interogations

after a bit of duress you sign a blank piece of paper (for what ever reason you are given) just so they will go away like they say they would

they do go away

From now on, have a minor click on the license agreement - since they are not legally bound by a license it does not apply to them...

(although I'm sure there is some screwed up law somewhere that says different by now.)

Who? EA? Blimey that's a bit harsh for a Games Company.

El oh El.

I can sign convincingly with my left hand and it looks totally different ;)

Im ambi-mouse-trous too, although much better with my right.
