Motherboard and Video cards.

I have an A7V8X with AGP slot. My 9800Pro is on it's last legs.
I am looking at a 7600GT or X1950 AGP cards.
Other than the slot type is there any other reason why those cards would not be compatible with my mobo?

I had a 9800XT and changed to a X1950 AGP card and I'm happy with it. However you need a high wattage PSU to run the card so watch out.

I have a 7600GT (256MB) - no complaints at all. Its about as good as you'll ever get in terms of price vs power.

No idea what my mobo is (I've had beer and can't be bothered to go and look) but I'm running Vista with 1.5GB RAM and an 80GB hard drive, 7 case fans, plus a CDRW and DVD-RW off a 400W PSU. No problems.

an X1950 would be a waste. AGP does not even offer nearly the needed bandwidth to feed that card.
Shouldn't be such a large problem for the 7600GT, it has only 128bit bus width and lower frequency. But still it will be 20-30% slower than on PCIe x16

When I got mine I did a lot of research, in fact tomshardware.com has the 7600GT and the X1950 AGP on it and the X1950 came out best...

I like my 7800GS, its a lot faster than the 7600 at higher res and uses very low power and doesn't produce much heat. Most of the time it just uses passive cooling without the fan being used at all for normal desktop tasks.

I also have the 7800GS card which was an update from 9800pro. Very happy with it & uses about the same power as the 9800pro.
