Recommend a paint program?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Recommend a paint program?

I'm looking for a (free, at the moment) paint program.

Especially one like DPaint used to be on the Amiga.

Any recommendations? I'm using the Paint program that comes with Windows for now, but anything better?

Cheers

Basil

I use Paint.NET http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

GraphicsGale is pretty good (freeware version doesn't do .gif) and simple. The Gimp is fully functioned if you're look for Photoshop type of effects. There is also Dogwaffle and Pixia if you want to give them a go but for quick stuff I use GraphicsGale.

Deluxe Paint :O)

Pro Motion by cosmigo. The app just pwns all.

Agreed Promotion, without a doubt, is the closest DPaint clone on the PC and has loads of extra, really helpful, features as an added bonus. It is not free but it is well worth the investment. Give it a try.

Jason.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look.

Cheers

Basil

Pro Motion is very good Paint too

Pro motion is the Bee's Knee's for pixel-pushing ease!

PaintShop Pro 9, its cheap and youve a great set of tools.

Windows/The GIMP
-> http://www.gimp.org/

OSX/The GIMP or Seashore if you're not fond of installing X11.
-> http://seashore.sourceforge.net/

Paint.NET is free, and much better than windows' own paint program:

(I hadn't heard of Pro Motion myself -- looks nice, although I couldn't help noticing this on their website: All tools are optimized for image and animation editing at pixel level for graphics with up to 256 palettized colors per frame. So... No true-color images at all, or just not in animated form?)

I use PSP and the gimp (depending on what needs doing)

I prefer PSP for actually drawing with and I like gimp for creating alpha PNGs and Icons (has a few cool filters too)
