i got a slight problem
got one of comps unpacked after moving and find the usb dont work all of a sudden, it boots but wont detect any usb keyboard and mouse or any other usb device,
ive googled the issue and found it could be a software issue...so just reinstall win xp ...
but i have no input devices working so i cant even hit return or select any options...any ideas anyone
check to see if any of the usb connetors go broken. If you tried to plug into a broken usb port then it's more than likley that that you've damaged the mainboard
no there fine...i had it on my passenger seat with seat belt...and have checked if anything is damaged..everything seems fine
A posible CMOS battery issue me thinks you will need a PS2 keyboard to check (or adapters). When you first booted it back up did it say any like checksum error press F1 for setup etc.
no it goes stright to xp and boots fine...
ps2 keyboard ...is that a serial (ahh it is ive just found out)
How are your USB ports connected?
Build in to motherboard?
PCI?
Internally connected to motherboard?
Have you had a look inside your PC to make sure there are no wires flapping about?
The little purple mini 6-pin DIN plug at the back
yes i did venture inside to see if anything was loose...but to be honest i have no idea what im looking at...but i checked that nothing was loose or flapping

You tried installing service pack 2 for XP? Supposed to clear up some issues with USB not working for unknown reasons. My xp install is without any service packs, and it refuses to allow my usb ports on the back to work. Microsoft site says that i need service pack 2.
ross ive got no input device..so i cant load or do anything, it just sits there and taunts me as i miss xp... vista is not my first choice

If the CMOS battery is old then the BIOS setting in the CMOS Chip will have been lost and reset to the the default. The (when you find a PS2 Keyboard or USB to PS2 adapter you with have to enter the BIOS setup. And look for the Enable USB-Legecy setting).
NOTE PLAYING AROUND IN BIOS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. BE WARNED.
thanks dawlane ive ordered a ps2 keyboard from amazon for under £7 so i will first try a new xp install

You could have got it cheaper if you went to the computer fare thats on Saturdays in Manchester ;-)

Or get a Usb to ps2 adapter :o) In fact that probably costs more than that keyboard gfk...
