Assassin's Creed - delayed for PC - sickens me

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Assassin's Creed - delayed for PC - sickens me

The PC release of Assassin's Creed was scheduled for February 29th.

The release is now for 28th March.

IT SICKENS ME TO THE VERY CORE OF MY EXISTENCE!

they probably have got to bog stuff down, set up new LOD managers, etc. due to the stupid next-gen consoles and their ability to handle rediculous amounts of graphics.

PC FOREVER!!!

It's nearly 2 months away. I can't believe I have got to wait 50 something days just to plunder the media. It sickens me.

They need to delay it as 3gb of RAM wasn't enough, so it's now slated for XP/Vista 64-bit to allow for 4gb of dedicated ram to the game.

Oooh, 4GB now. I hope it looks really great with the extra RAM.

The main downside is the media won't look as good in Blitz3D - sniff.

12GB of HD space required as well. That's three times the size of Oblivion.

The Witcher was 7-8GB and I thought that was huge.

12gb is especially 3 times the amount you have on a DVD. even with duallayer thats still 3+ GB more than you can fit on a DVD ie what you have on a X360 which runs at 1080p ... I'm really asking what they need to raise there ... don't assume there is a 2520xXXXX special texture set ^^

due to the stupid next-gen consoles and their ability to handle rediculous amounts of graphics

I think it is the other way around. Console specs have already fallen behind high-end PCs.

Yes and no.
The X360 has a feature that any PC card would greatly benefit of ... its dedicated "backbuffer" memory or how that thing was called. the 10MB of highest performance VRAM it can use to apply post processing effects with a performance not possible on regular VRAM.

well, which ever way you look at it. This is just another example of PC games getting massively over bloated.

Check this out: http://kk.kema.at/files/kkrieger-beta.zip

An FPS game that takes only 97k of disk space, and it actually looks and plays pretty well. These guys could probably do assasins creed in a couple of megs.

if it sells well I will be suprised, the requirements for it would basically mean I could buy a X360 and Assasins Creed for the price of the ram upgrade and Vista.

have a look at this in 180k http://www.theprodukkt.com/debris/#59

:)

I think I'll also buy Assasin's Creed, although I've heard that the content is quite sparse. An average player plays Crysis in about 8-10 hours, so I think Assasin's Creed would take less than that. I've never touched Crysis again after I played it once through, it just didn't have any good content, but just a boring linear storyline.

Games should be made so that you can play them in many ways, like Delta Force or Arx Fatalis. Delta Force just stays a fun game to play forever because you always find new tactics how to beat the enemies, sniping tactics, knife tactics, SAW tactics, and you can go any way in the landscape you want, not just a linear path.

It's very likely to play better on the console anyway, I'm not sure if it's a good one for the PC.

Darkheart

If it's anything like the Prince of Persia trilogy it'll play fine on the PC using the WASD+Mouse setup.

I think it is the other way around. Console specs have already fallen behind high-end PCs.

more than likely true
the xbox and ps3 and all consoles before and to come are fixed systems yet pc's are modular good and bad in both

imagine if you had to change the whole pc instead of a card to get the next best thing ... we'd still be in 640 vga dos

yet buy a ps2 and sell/throw away/donate your psONE no problem ... it plays the same games doesnt it (ok not true for ps3 and some clasic xbox titles)

but if the (clasic) xbox cost as much as the parts alone i dont think it would have sold ... i mean i got mine for £100 ffs (ok it was alot more at first nearly £500?)

if it sells well I will be suprised, the requirements for it would basically mean I could buy a X360 and Assasins Creed for the price of the ram upgrade and Vista.

Not really.
Vista non upgrade to ultima cost 150 Euro
2x2GB Mushkin high performance ram cost < 100 Euro ;-)

This thing is starting to get on my pork!

It is now delayed until sometime in April. Some stores are saying 11th April - Ubisoft, seem to be on the fence.

FINISH IT, YOU MAGGOTS!!!

FINISH IT!!!

All this farting about just to get my hands on the media.

Haha, I've already finished the game :P
Looks amazing ^^

They're adding some bits and pieces to the PC version as well - extra investigations, etc..

I expect it'll be lovely to watch, easy to play and kind of shallow.

It's fairly shallow. Despite appearances, I'd compare it to a Mario kind of game more than anything. Lots of things to find and collect, but fairly simple core gameplay.

I think the gameplay is just about right, it's not too complicated, the missions arn't too long. There is always some tension and the excitement of being chased around doesn't fade much. I think if they tried to add too much to it then it would lose a lot of it's fluidity.

I really don't see the point of the PC version, for the price of the upgrades for your PC you could just buy a 360 and enjoy it right now in all it's glory.

Darkheart

UGGGG stop recharging zombie threads!!!! it's getting annoying :-)

HERE I AM - SITTING, WAITING, WONDERING WHY IS ASSASSIN'S CREED DELAYED FOR THE PC?

BECAUSE THEY WASTED SO MUCH TIME DOING THIS:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TZvPIGQ7wug

FILTHY MAGGOTS!

THERE IS BLOODY MORE OF IT - THEY HAVE WASTED TONS OF TIME DOING ALL SORTS OF IN-HOUSE MOVIES AND STUFF.

IT SICKENS ME TO THE VERY CORE OF MY EXISTENCE!!!

Anyway, it is released on Friday, 11th April.

There are rumours it may be out tomorrow, 9th April in various download places - such as Ubisoft and Steam, etc. I will wait the extra few days.

It was finished a couple of months ago. The delay is purely marketing or some kind of arrangement they had with Microsoft or Sony.

The PC version is less buggy than the console version which makes a change. Probably where they put all the extra time in.

Typical bloody console gamer. Thinks the world revolves around his 360. Hhrrumph.

The PC version is technically inferior. Even at the max. settings it doesn't look as good as the console versions.
By the way: my PS3 version has no bugs, must have been fixed with the latest update that was released end 2007.

It's probably carp.

It's probably carp.
Yea, definitely something fishy about it...

The PC version is technically inferior. Even at the max. settings it doesn't look as good as the console versions.

The reviews I've read state otherwise.

At any rate, the game still sports insane system requirements. Makes me wish it were a criminal offense (ignoring all the problems that'd bring up) to release a high-end game without an accompanying demo or benchmarker to ensure it'll even run.

Tempted to just wait it out until a price-drop and grab it for my MacBook Pro as my main PC rig doesn't sport a dual-core processor.

I read that the PC version had the best graphics so far and is still playable on outdated systems if you turn the options down somewhat. They improved the gameplay by adding side quests and less of the overly repetitive rinse and repeat tasks that marred the console original.

Will be interesting to see how others review it.

I'm playing at full gfx at my E6600 3.2, 2gb kingston ddr2 ram, x1950pro 512mb. I think they optimized the game a bit in this 2 months.

Yay, better version, and it wont completely break the bank - compared to the 360 version.

That, of course, assumes the developers have enough competence at least to realize the importance of predictable frame rates. Crysis, for example, does not understand this. Ran fine on my system, then beautifully with high settings in some places after applying the 1.2 patch... then like a bad slideshow in the alien space ship, the big ice scene, and the big aircraft carrier.

There is no way I could have predicted this bad performance with a demo, and it showed a horrible lack of basic common sense amongst the game's developers. Thankfully, the latter end sucked anyway (why couldn't they have chosen a less politically sensitive topic so we could have the entire game consist of killing weak humans?), so I am content just poking around with the editor and replaying the early parts...

Assassin's Creed has a similar issue where the cities do seem to grow in complexity as you go along. Combine that with the obvious flakiness of this thing's development process, and you have what will undoubtedly be a very misleading demo where the very next scene has slaughtered performance.

heh - I'm over buying these things on first release now - I wait till they're marked down to $25-35 dollars, or as a budget release.

For example, I'm looking forward to getting Crysis on a budget release ;-)

Is this out yet - anyone got it?

I'm just scouring the net at the moment.

Wait a minute!

It has been released.

People are saying they bought it yesterday!!!

This is most unfair.

Wait a minute!

They live in Australia.

How bent is that?

I played it and it runs fine with graphics maxed out except AA at 1024x768 on my A64 3000+ with 7800GS AGP vid card.

What struck me the most about Assasin's Creed is how spookily similar it was to the Naruto game that Ubisoft also released a few months earlier. Really, they are extremely similar games in many ways.

"Evak"

What type of data files are in your installation directory?

Any large data files - ie like a packed file? What are the file extensions? Is the game reading from large files or are there loads of small files and directories?

I'd like to start collating info on this now, so that I can get stuck in as soon as I get the game.

Technically, this is an internal Ubi-Soft game and I don't have any games that are internal ones - just ones they have published - with those the archive encryption varies depending on the developer.

There was an advert for this on TV today. PC and Nintendo DS

Is anyone seeing the full game on Steam?

I'm wondering if Steam is stopping some people accessing the game based on where they live - ie you have to live in an area where it has been released.

EDIT:
http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=game&AppId=15100&cc=US

I managed to access it by fixing the link to the USA.

Damn! they need to make a demo.

There is a leaked beta that was sent to game review sites.

I now have the .Forge file structure for the media.

I have everything I need to reverse engineer the media - remains to be seen what the animated character data will shunt into. I mainly want this for the character meshes. It is not a major thing as I have the Dark Messiah ones anyway fully rigged up into .b3d files. They prepped everything with Max, Motion Builder and some HumanIK thing.

EDIT:
I've not got the beta thing - I just came across the fact that it is out there - I have various .forge files that people have been swapping about with different format versions of the game. Apparantly, some people tried to fix the beta to a full game by shunting the 360 forge files at it - didn't work as Ubi-Soft have changed the forge file structure for the PC version.

I'll bet this runs fine on my powerhouse ;-)

I have sorted You Tube videos into date order - should be a few, brand new, home-made PC retail version videos in there. I suspect more will appear.

This is a nice, clear, video: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/200297.html

Recorded on Fraps

- System -

Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.80ghz
BFG nForce 680i / 4GB DDR2 800Mhz
XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 512MB ( Alpha Dog ) G92 Chipset
( Windows Vista Ultimate x64 )
DirectX 10 SM4

Ps. This game have DX9 too, but both run on 32Bits ( Dont have 64bit like Crysis for example )

Everything on MAX @ 1680x1050 with Vsync Enable

I have slightly better hardware - PLUS - the DX9 version is supposed to run much nicer (faster) than the DX10 that he is using.

Hm, I play that game with everything on max at 1920x1080 on my Xbox 360... And I bought it last year in December. It's a fine example why I think that the time of PC gaming is over. Look at the machines you guys have to buy to run that game and look at what you've paid for that hardware. Now check out how much an Xbox 360 costs and you'll see what's wrong with that PC picture. Especially when you consider that all the games that are going to be released this year will still run on the very same Xbox 360, but you'll probably have to upgrade your PCs again to play them.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have anything against extreme computing power in a workstation. I bought a used Mac Pro with 8 GB RAM two days ago and now wait for its arrival. Naturally, I will also check out how it'll perform with games. But that's not what I bought that baby for. I bought that Xeon army for Aperture and other apps.

its delayed?

this is maddness!!! this is SICKENING!!!

It runs ok on a system made from 2-4 year old components. Not at super high res, but it looks really nice still and has all the effects on.

I spend about $150 a year on my puter, will have to get another one soon theough, single core is getting a bit tedious for rendering and checking email etc.

Can't really justify spending a ton of money on a 360 when I only play every couple of months or so whilst I use my PC every single day for 2D and 3D work which pays for itself in a short time.

Consoles never pay for themselves and end up being a money pit for a games that you probably won't play more than once, even if they are good enough to finish.

I have always followed the same logic as you Evak UNTIL I got a 360.

I've had a number of console systems over the years that I've bought, played a game or two.... and then chucked in a corner and later sold to a friend. But the 360 get used daily even if it's just for watching recorded/downloaded tv shows or movies. And though I have only a handful of games, I do play them far more than any other system I've had since the Atari 2600. I've had and hated the dreamcast, ps2, ps3, xbox original, and older ones as well and they all got sold within a short time of purchase. But I see the 360 staying on my component shelf for quite some time.

Yeah I had a Xbox that I really liked. But when I saw I spent $600 on games for it, and the games I want on 360 are often sequels, can't really justify the expense. I do think the 360 has a very nice collection of games though. Just don't play games much anymore.

To get the most out of the 360 I really need a HDTV too, which puts the cost up higher than a decent PC. 1080 starts at about $1000 and I don't watch regular TV. So it would only be for games and DVD's.

The higher specs for the PC are in relation to the technical reconstruction of the .forge files which differ to the consoles.

This is why the memory requirements are so high - the PC version is shunting more into memory than console versions. Possibly more than is required - I cannot look at this until I get the game. Something is afoot though.

Warning.

A fair few people are having problems installing the PC version. This is due to their DVD drive - here is an example thread:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4721051016/m/2561072056

Having read a few reviews for the PC version it does look like the Xbox 360 version is the best one to play. This game doesn't really need any extra content, it's 15-20 hours long already, that's enough. I think the small extras that they have added to the PC version (a few scripted sub-missions) arn't worth the price of the bugs and the high-spec requirements and having to play it on the mouse/keyboard setup.

I've seen a few reviews suggesting you use a 360 controller with your PC, but if you had a 360 and cared about this game enough attach it to your PC, wouldn't you already have it for the 360?

What I don't understand is why Assassin's Creed should be the litmus test as to whether or not PC gaming is over?

I've not played the game, but it sounds like it's the typical console title - nice graphics, light on depth.

Come to the PC, where you can get both! (Usually).

I just returned home clutching my copy to my heaving breasts.

It only takes up 6.6GB on my drive - less than what I thought it would be. 6.44GB of it is those big, fat, juicy .forge files that are full of all that lovely media.

This is going to be the first time I have ever played Assassin's Creed (on any format).

I'm going in.

Wait a minute!

What the hell is going on with the futuristic style interface and stuff?

It's like a futuristic FPS or something - this a bit naff-looking for a medieval-type game. I hope the game content is what I am expecting or I shall be most upset.

Um, I am in a futuristic laboratory with computers and stuff.

welcome to assasins creed, the storyline's not too bad, stick with it mate. The stuff in the lab will annoy you after a while though.

I want a fantasy/medieval type game.

This is like Deus Ex.

Have you not got to the medieval bit yet?

I just entered some kind of town.

I just returned home clutching my copy to my heaving breasts.

Didn't think you got out much puki, must be one of those rare occasions where you see the outside world.

It is nowhere near as graphically lush as what I thought it would be - I've cranked all the settings to max.

I'm pleased to see that they are using terrain cloud shadowing that I suggested on these forums a while ago - which seemed to go over peoples' heads.

The textures seem pretty poor though - I'm wondering if this is a fault rather than what I should be seeing. Just doesn't look like what I was expecting.

cloud textures, you have them in Command and conquer generals I think. It adds a lot fo realism to scenes, especially where there's a long distance shot over landscape involved.

You find things called look out points soon, which are basically just you standing on top of a tower and the camera pans around the whole scene, it's really just the graphics engine showing off.

I would have expected the textures to be higher res than the xbox version, maybe not.

Yeah, its mostly the lighting that makes the game look good. The media is a mixed bag without the nice lighting and not as advanced as one would expect. It's pretty typical ubisoft, in some ways I think the last splinter cell game had better graphics really.

I was hoping for a more traditional medieval game more like Thief, than DeusEX, mixed with hitman and POP. I havent bothered playing the game really. Got as far as being dismissed from the Assasins guild (probably the first level) and never bothered to play again.

I finished the village level - now I am inside the laboratory complex again - I can now move freely about in there.

Not sure I like this bentness.

The horses are very nice and amazingly realistic in their movements.

I have just arrived at the City of Damascus.

Looks most exciting.

ATTN mods: thread name needs to be changed to "puki's Assassin's Creed progress log".

The horses are very nice and amazingly realistic in their movements.

Do they react to the environment geometry convincingly as well by anychance? One of the beefs I have with a crapload of games with horses in them is that they either get aligned to the current terrain slope in a stiff manner, and that they freak-out upon hitting a wall, or keep running full speed into the wall while sliding by at whatever angle you hit it at.

Only game I came across with a horse that was convincing was Agro in Shadow of the Colossus, but that game had some of the best looking animations all-round of the last generation.
(watching a kid flail about with a proper sense of momentum and flow makes you feel sorry for the person)

I didn't notice any problems with the horse like what you mentioned (on an xbox 360).

If you want a realistic horse, give Mount&Blade a try.

http://www.taleworlds.com

I quite like Assassin's Creed now - the Cities are quite nice-looking - better than the town you start in.

I do like the crowd scenes - I unpacked some of the technical data regarding the implementation of the crowds.

You are an assasin in your own way puki and those game media are your prey.

Ahm, can I run this game on my outdated system in high detail?

Probably.

i had heard it was a bit boring so i did n't buy it

It's okay.

yeah might still buy , just for a look see
