How many PC's do you use at home?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/How many PC's do you use at home?
I've got 4 main PC's at home. My new gaming rig, my second gaming rig, my internet PC and my back-up PC.
I've never had a laptop but am considering getting one.
I'm curious as to how many PC's people have. I have more than one as I like to have at least one for the internet and at least one for gaming - I generally use two at the same time.
Does anyone have just a single PC that they do everything on?
Just the one PC here, but I do also have two Mac laptops (a PowerPC one and an Intel one).
I got my main pc in my room, and then a laptop running vista as our family computer. Then i sometimes have a 3rd, when my sister comes home from college and brings her laptop.
I just got the one main PC here that's hooked up to two monitors, and a MacBook Pro for doing stuff on the go.
Thinking about purchasing a new PC with SLi though so I can hook four monitors up, rather than upgrading my aging rig.
no pc @ Home
No PC a home?
I hope you have a jolly good explanation for that.
this all in one rig (save for decent gaming)
my old pc i broght down from my brothers so i could harvest the data off it other than that its an inactive box
old win me laptop (with a dead battery so mains only) that needs harvesting and wiping either one will become a linuz box just to try it out
so just the one really
Currently I've got 5.
Development desktop with dual monitors, and a dev laptop, both running Vista, 1.4GHz test PC with WinXP, 833MHz test PC which lacks a hard drive at the moment (but will eventually have Win98 or Win2k on), and an XP laptop with a motherboard fault.
Got 5 too.
1 Linux based file, mail, apache, print server (AKA my desktop PC)
1 Tripple boot (Ubuntu/xp/vista) laptop (main dev machine)
2 Dual boot Ubuntu+XP, laptops they are just testbeds for minimum/common specs.
1 My girlfriend uses for her stuff.
Well there are six here three laptops and three desktops all networked for lan testing stuffs
Technically I have 3. I only use one, though.
Why do you need 2 gaming rigs?
My other gaming PC is AMD/ATI - my new one is Intel/nVidia.
Why does that make a difference?
Only one PC for all purpose, I'm poor.
My Main PC - Used for day to day stuff
My Secondary PC - Used for testing stuff or if one goes wrong
My Laptop - Used for laptopy stuff (E.G. College and whatever)
And then there is the like non directly ones
The two servers
And a test pc occasionally used kept in the garage.
Too many.
At least if we count Commodore 64 and Amiga aswell ;)
1. main win98se machine
2. brutal music machine
3. notebook (sempron3200)
4. older athlon800, not in used since oodles ago
My PC, the girlfriends PC, that's it.
Just the one.
1. main win98se machine
\o/
win98se! The OS for people who hate annoying OS popups and OS'es sticking their nose into every fart you do.
oh, and:
5. a jerky old p100 ^_^
Win98SE - the OS for Luddites!
6 pc's with various configurations of OS/Vid card/processor (4 of which have swappable hd's to try different OS configs.)
Plus 1 Lappy which is my main dev machine.
Gaming on the Xbox360 these days, after getting fed up of the 'upgrade hell' of PC's...
3 :P
1 laptop
1 stand alone
1 pocket
Panno, NO PC 8|
anyway, i don't have a TV ;) that mebe worse to some
I have had 8!!! but right now, 2 laptops and a media center PC (downgraded gaming machines since games are crap at the mo.)
I use just the one 99.9% of the time... Mainly because my primary machine is good enough to run pretty much anything I want, and it is *much* quieter than any of the other machines in the house, including the laptop. I run Windows XP as the native OS, a dual-boot option for Linux, as well as windows 98, Windows 2000 and Linux inside of VMWare.
My wife & son have their own PC's, plus I have my previous PC & an old laptop around (rarely used)
But it is nice to have the option of having the others available for the occasional testing, especially since they are fairly dissimilar:
- AMD K6-400Mhz with 64MB and Voodoo3 on Win98 [1998] (my son's)
- 600Mhz laptop with 256MB and Rage Pro on Win 2000 [2001]
- Athlon 2000+ with 512MB and Intel GFX on Win 2000 [2004] (my wife's)
- Athlon 2800+ with 1GB and ATI 9600 PRo on XP [2004] (Old PC, hasn't been used since I moved all my data to the new one)
- Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4GHz) with 2 GB and ATI X1650XT on XP (my main machine) [2007]
(The AMD K6 blows the laptop out of the water in Blitzmax, though -- video card makes all the difference)
My highest personal count was an iMac Core Duo, and iMac G4, a Mac Mini and two PowerBook G4. Now I've "consolidated" down to a 17" PowerBook G4, an iMac Core Duo, an iPod Touch and an Xbox 360. However, I live together with my girl friend and she also has a 12" PowerBook G4 and a 17" iMac G4 (and an iPod Video, but that does not really count, or does it?). So we have four Macs and one console in our home.
Just 3. A Linux server, a Wintendo for games and a Laptop for work.
I have a desktop and a laptop (that I mainly use for DVD's and Television), I also have a spare desktop sitting around, waiting for the day when I can be bothered doing something with it.
MainPC as gaming and dev rig
Higher Performance Notebook that was the previous gaming and dev rig
Lenovo 13" Tablet with 2 accus as study machine.
Having an apple of some kind on my "to get list" when my project is worth beeing released ...

My Primary
My old primary (kid's machine now)
The old old primary
Wife's laptop.
And I bring the laptop from work home a good bit.
Technically I have two computers, but one (the Mac laptop) has been broken for a while and I still haven't taken it to the Apple store for repairs. It was well timed; my Windows desktop had been broken for a while, and within a week of getting that back from the repair shop my laptop went belly up.
Hello.
There we go! How to solve the eco-disaster we're spiralling towards - stop Blitz forum users having more than one PC.
However, I'm as guilty as the rest though I do only use one machine at a time. How can you game and surf at the same time?
I've got:
- 1 vista laptop
- XP machine (main machine)
- XP machine (girlfriends machine)
- XP machine (waiting to be stripped and linux installed, just for fun)
- XP machine (low end but useful for filling up empty space, until I find something to do with it)
- A big box Amiga (because I'm still in love with it)
- An ancient laptop (and I mean ancient - it's got an orange screen and a proper keyboard, weighs about a ton). I'm keeping this as I consider it a modern day antique...well, it will be...you know what I mean. Needless to say, I don't use it much :o)
Goodbye.
- Main rig for daily use (dual boot, the other OS is for music related stuff - mainly Cubase)
- Server (file server, apache, FTP - unstable due to heat issues, so I keep it off most of the time)
- Laptop
- Multimedia pc (my girlfriends toy)
- Old PC with MS-DOS 6.22 (it brings some twisted pleasure to have this around)
I could also build a sixth pc from the part surplus I have, but have no need to it right now. I also have Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 in the closet but neither of them work. I wonder where I could find people to fix them... Or service manuals!
1
One.. well... Two... But I've not switched the second one on for about four years
5. Main PC, Laptop for Helen, Conan's PC, Macbook Pro and Mac G4. Also got a couple of old PCs in the attic (worthless junk now).
4
Main pc with dual boot xp and linux
Emulator pc in arcade cabinet (DIY converted)
mini atx pc thats used as a DVR and media player in lounge.
rubbish laptop.
soon getting mac book pro. so will be 5
Main PC, dual boots Windows and Ubuntu
Missus's PC, Windows only
Amiga 4000 - counts because it's on my desk
Macbook Pro - mine
iBook - the missus
Crappy old P4 Laptop
Also a couple of motherboards with CPUs and RAM all ready to go.
Macbook Pro gets the most use, the main PC is just for Linux work or the odd Windows game.
I've a laptop and so has my fiancée. But this year I'll be getting something more up to date so my laptop will become a spare test machine.
Crappy old P4 Laptop
Awwww, poor thing. Send it to me and I'll make sure it's loved :)
3 in my office room (I live in a home/office)
-First and the most powerful one for gaming, 3D, 2D, programming...
-Second one with AMD 3000+ 2.4ghz + Radeon9600pro for testing, internet, music, some older games
-Third one is a dinasour, I can use it as an artifact from ancient times and sell it to a museum :) P166MMX. I use it for some old games which doesn't run on XP, I also use it's CD-ROM as a coffee cup holder hehe.
I use 2. One for the left side of my brain and one for the right.
I have 3 PC's, an iMac(intel) and a Sony laptop to play with. But I can only use one at a time as I can't split myself into 5
Awwww, poor thing. Send it to me and I'll make sure it's loved :)
I was thinking of gutting it and turning it into some sort of wireless media player thing.
But your suggestion is equally good, althought much less likely :P
- I have my main PC, browse the web and play games on. It has two screens, so I can actually browse the web and play games at the same time.
- My kids share a PC in their game room.
- One of my daughters has a notebook.
- There is a PC in my arcade machine (runs Mame)
- I have a Server in my garage with 2TB of disk space. Holds my movies and music mostly.
- I have 3 original XBoxes that have Linux on them that are High Def video players to play the movies/music on the server.
4, main PC for games (apart from SIMS 2 which my wifes laptop runs better!), 1 wireless laptop, 1 dying laptop for web development, and one in the loft for burning stuff to mky PICS. (PIC16F84). All XP machines.
2 Macs, Intel is Mine, PPC is the wife's.
I've got 2 (as per my sig) but I haven't powered up the desktop since before Christmas. My laptop can do more than my desktop.
I'll use my desktop if the laptop breaks down or I need to reformat it.
Not everyone has completed the survey.
I personaly have a laptop (intel celeron m cpu, 410 @ 1.46ghz, 540mhz, 504 mb ram, xp!)
but the other comps in the house are nice but vista based or old and slow!!!!!
