Skype!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Skype!

Guess what! Skype has come to the psp in version 3.90! That is pretty cool. how many skype users are there here? If you have a psp I highly recomend you download this update.

PSP-Slim only unfortunately.

Smooth move of Sony to slap all the early adopters in the face for making the slim PSP have a doubled flash-memory over the standard one.
(the lack of TV-out on my standard PSP I could do without, but something like this I can't forgive since you can't 'upgrade' your psp)

Anyways, not a Skype user here as I've really had no reason to use it yet, although the ability to actually phone people (rather than just VoIP) with my computer always intrigued me.

This really sucks but shows how much Sony is interested in its costumers. The recent moves on the PS3 end and the fact that each continent got different versions of the consoles with different capabilities in the past was the same like that.

I'm quite happy that I sold mine a few months back ... otherwise I would have gone mad due to this action.

I have not tried the Tv out yet. l went and read about it only b-ing for the slim, what the heck! I hope u guys with the older ones dont suffer anymore in the future. here is something i was wondering about; will we ever run out of room on the internal memory? skype takes up some space i am sure, the internet radio isnt too bad, how does all that work?

Internet radio from what I've read just hooks-up to audio streams from a couple websites that you're locked into getting streams from, unless you feel like going the old tunneling-trick-via-PC route and forcing the PSP to connect to a website of your own choice.

And technically (even though it doesn't apply to anywhere outside Japan), fat PSP gets shafted also on that as the PSP-2000 (easier to call the slims that) can use their TV-tuner with the thing.

The internal memory on the PSP-fat is near full from what I've extrapolated from the homebrew community.

But if Skype really needed a fair amount, it feels like a waste to even put it on the PSP-2000 to begin with.
(N-Gage2.0 anyone?)

[EDIT] And yeah, I'm with agreement on the whole 50,000 versions of the PS3 thing. Nice to see Sony being a hypocrite though, considering they downplayed the 360 back at launch for its 2-SKU strategy.

do u know how to tell how mtch internal memory u havedleft?

i also sorta agree with u on the skype thing, ithink the whole thing is really cool but in preference to that, they need to touch up on some the existing stuff before they go and stuff it with stuff that a smaller percentage will use due to itsobvious drawbacks. dont get me started on the ps3. o and the install file for the skyp update was like 20~30mb

There's no legit way of knowing aside from estimating the size of the firmware-updates uncompressed.

Anyone want a poor condition PSP with custom firmware? £40. The disk drive is on its way out and its been fitted with a new screen (but now needs a new chasis) but the fact it has custom firmware gives it some value. You can backup (or download a copy of the games you own) and play then off the memory stick. Also, you can convert PS1 games to PSP format. :-)

:-P

I've got a custom firmware PSP. It's brilliant. I use it for playing old NES and SNES games.
