im having issues with avg anti spyware it keeps locking up every time i run it, ive been using it for ages this has only just started to happen..

Spybot is good too, and has a program called teatimer which checks any applications that edit the registry. Well, that's what i think it does :D
Erm, reanimator is good app, but requires alot of attention to make sure you don't remove the wrong thing.

Spybot is probably the most popular freeware one.
AdAware is probably the most popular compliment to Spybot.
Nod32 has long been considered the best AV solution in the world - it has been updated with more malware detection - but dedicated malware apps are recommended.
However, do not combine SpySweeper with Spybot as you are doubling up. AdAaware is okay with anything. Spyware Blaster is okay with anything.

PC doctor is actually a quite powerfull solution as well.
Helped me to get rid of a few that most others were not even capable to detect and that caused some nasty ad icon creation on the desktop over and over again.
