Looks texture highres (planet). I do like the warm colours in there. What i dislike is the general shape of the spaceship as it doesn't look interesting to me.

have you seen the requirements, talk about extreme :/

Looks great. I like the motion blur. Would be cool to have some infos. Eg. is the motion blur a software effect, or is it some kind of new dx10 feature. Well, probalby I should know more about dx10 then. Amazing where we are today. Remember Pacman Graphics is only 25 years ago. This is like an evolution from cave paintings to photorealism during a single generation.

My cpu is better than needed, my video card is useless.
The biggest issue is the need for vista, i don't like it.

cpu not up to speed (2.8gh pentium d dual core)
gfx suck i knew theat
2gb ram needed ???

and not forgetting vista
thank you ... i think ill go find my 1st gen game boy instead

heh, looks cool. The one thing I'm missing from modern space sim/shooters is being able to fly down into planets. No one has really done that properly since the frontier games. If someone does a good job then I'd be sold.

Vista? Count me out.

Another thing nobodies needs ...
It just proofs that some goofs believe in most modern GPU "must be the one" than great design capabilities.

The whole point of 3DMark is that it pushes even the high-end cards to the limits of their capabilities, that's how you end up with scores that can actually tell you something about the various cards....

Basically they are pushing the people that use it to measure thier computer power by thier 3dmark score. Having these sort of system requirements means that loads of them will go out and buy a stupid rig to test it on.

Count me out, I prefer to play games that I think the people have pushed thier programming knowledge not just increased the specs to cover sloppy coding.

3dmark stopped making sense due to the hardware reality since quite some time. I wonder if they inofficially also came to this conclusion and how much this is part of the reason heading for a game beside of the obviously new challenge.

I think the best thing FM has done the last time was offering the bang for the buck stats on yougamers, although due to the inability making benches for a wider range of cards it's incomplete.

I do not like sloppy coding either, but as always: every new 3DMark is built for BENCHMARKING high-end hardware, with a load adjusted so that no hw can run it 100fps now as it has to be valid benchmark for maybe two years... if it would become fast cpu-bound it would be useless for gpu-measuring, right?

And I do understand that we are here at Blitz3D forums which is DX7-tech... so (excluding Puki largeness) most of you do not qualify for our target group, sorry :)

Also most of the heavy reqs comes from the fact that it IS Vista-nator/DX10 benchmark. And it is meant for that combo, if you have DX9 setup, use 3DMark06 and so forth... DX7 setups should use 3DMark2001.

3DMark Vantage will be the first benchmark out there to measure reliably DX10 performance - and will be the best choice for a long time.

An ATI 2400, like all those other low range cards, also is a SM4 card but it's not highend and so there is no reasonable benchmark for comparing all DirectX10 technology, not even speaking of a comparison to DirectX9 cards. Will someone get more than 1fps with such a card?

I can only say that all the people i know are moving away from upgrading their gfx cards like they did before and either are looking for a reasonable power consuming/priced product in the mid range or heading for a console.

I really would be interested in how well high end cards are selling these days and getting better stats on how large their market share is. For my work i would say DirectX9 is fine but i also have to take care of the low range stuff.

As for buying several benches this is no real option as i expect a GPU benchmark to offer me a comparison like a CPU benchmark without beeing forced to buy a handful of benchmarks and not even getting a compareable result between the different versions. Of course you can't compare everything due to the limitations in each generation but it still would be possible integrating tests which do stuff on a common base and present these numbers too as a base for comparing different generations of gfx cards.

Yes! My rig is more than adequate for this new benchmark! :-)
When will it be out? When? When? ;-)

With the prices of ATI 3870 at slightly over $200 there's no excuse to get one now. RAM is also very cheap. The only requirement that might be troublesome is Vista, but one does not need Vista Ultimate to run games. Right?

Barney

Too bad 3Dmark doesn't use OpenGL. Vista? Pfft. By the way, motion blur is probably done with shaders, and can be done in opengl, dx9 etc.

You do not need Vista to run games. If you need it you are looking for graphically great but playability wise weak games as that are the only games that are Vista only

I checked whether or not my computer was capable of running this version, but the verdict what that while my video card had 'significantly more power' than the minimum requirements, it still couldn't run it because if was 'only' a shader model 3.0 card and they need 4.0.

That, and it requires Vista. (DX10, presumably)
