:)

Great day...

this means hightech slideshow games for most of us ;)

From press release:

--mission is to build world class games that bring new and entertaining game play to gamers. This includes games and their engines that deliver stellar performance even on modest platforms--

Is there a certain technology the game development is based on or will this be decided specifically to a certain game's needs?

No offense, but I have yet to see a game company that states:
--mission is to build world class games that bring nothing new and are less entertaining in game play to gamers. This includes games and their engines that deliver far less than stellar performance even on high end platforms--

I was just under the assumption that all game companies 'want' to create the next big game....

Well... just really wanted to kill the (inevitable) idea people might get: fm benchmarks, slow, fm games, slow. Nope... fm understands the difference and all that. Like APC and Porsche: both carry people and have wheels but are meant for totally different purposes.

although, they have knowledge on how to make it damned slow so if they avoid everything they learnt from that, it should work quite well ... this means they use pureDX9 without multitexturing etc ^^ otherwise it won't be even near "fluid" on an intel ^^

@Mustang
So do you want to make games primary for a bunch of porsche drivers which also pollute our environment unduly or do you want to go for the masses? :O)

And which technology do you want to use for the games you plan to make?

*predicts a simplistic action game featuring a vanilla sci-fi setting, macho space marines, and a tech-heavy, but ultimately slow, 3d engine*

I heard through the grapevine that it will be a strongly storydriven classic 2D point&click adventure for the Mac.

I heard it's going to be Manic Miner.

I got it, FM_ELIZA!

Player: How do you feel today?
FM_ELIZA: Oh well, i'm a little bit sad as i haven't done any benchmarking on this computer for quite some time.
Player: How do you feel today?
FM_ELIZA: The score was really awful the last time i remember. He really should updgrade his gfx card.

Congratulations Mustang, I take it your going to be working on the team one way or another :). Hope your company meets its goals and manages to pull off a good game with nice graphics.

Should be fun making an actual game rather than a tech demo :)

How about pong, with cheese. Cheese Pong.

I take it the first one will be an FPS based on the space marines in 3D mark? Or maybe something original?

Mustang,
Congrats I hope we get to see some of your work in a full game. Can you give us any clues about what kind of games Futuremark might be looking to put out?

Darkheart

You'll definitely see my touch in the outcome, but as you know and understand themes, tech etc is at this point something that nobody can't comment.

Ok Mustang I appreciate your position, I can only hope Futuremark put out some innovative games and genres which have become almost entirely exstinct these days. e.g. Space Combat Sims or Fighting Games on the PC, maybe even finally a successful Dragon Flying (ala 3D MARK 2000) game on the PC.

I think it must be a logical move for Futuremark given the amount of art assets and programming skills they must have built up creating their benchmarks.

Anandtech wrote and published an article titled "Futuremark: of Benchmarks and Gaming":

And Gamasutra has one article too:

Q&A: Futuremark Sets A New Benchmark With Games

So come on Mustang, how long did it take you to get the guys to listen to you?

I think this is great news, and will keep the guys at the likes of Cry, Quake and Unreal on their tippie toes... lol!

IPete2.

I breach the 10,000 barrier in 3D Mark 2006. I can handle this game. If it is a RPG game then submit me as a tester.

Well, Remedy's Alan Wake is derived from Futuremark technologies, as was Max Payne.

So it's possible that FGS and Remedy share technology there.

Good keypoint, are there any news what's holding back Alan Wake?
