controller type for Rrythem Game?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/controller type for Rrythem Game?

Im currently messing with a Rythem Style Game and was planning on mapping the controller to a classic key format

Up,Down,Left,Right
x,y,a,b

at first i was working along the keyboard controll format but it seems that not all 3+ key combinations are supported so a controller is the only option

1. Is the Class Snes Ps Xbox controller format a popular choice for the pc gamer ?

2. During Setup im allowing the user to define their own symbols for the relivant buttons and directions are the x,y,a,b and Ps Symbols okay to use or are they copyright infringment ?

lol typo :) (Rhythm Game)

lol typo :) (Rythem Game)

Of course, you meant "Rhythm" ;-)

are they copyright infringment?

More likely to be trademarked than copyrighted...

Why not use colours? Or give them a huge list of symbols to choose from, and slip those PS ones into the list but don't make them default ;-)
But I doubt it's something you need to worry about anyway.

Yeah thinking the large selection of symbols will be the best option

lol corrected typo of typo :)

Im quiet happy how the first prototype is coming along
supports 8 directional presses and 10 button combos combined with short and long varaints giving a total of
(8*2) * (10*2) = 320 riffs variations of 1 to 4 symbols

Using 0gg file format for audio and Tv3d for rendering

my usb drum kit is kinda mapped like a joy pad
not all of the pads get a 'hit' in the blitz joypad demo code

dunno how these games would work on a joy pad 360/ps type or not
rockband and guitar hero use look alike instruments for a reason if you played either with just joypad it might be suckier than the suckiest thing going

but without trying ... ;)

If the button icons are not used within the actual gameplay (excluding text), I'd just stick with numbered icons for the controller setup just as you see in typically every PC game, with the exception of the ones that support the 360 gamepad.

Yeah I agree that the non instrumental relations might be of putting but these type of games have been around for 10-15 years in mainstream using an alien interface.

Im a lover of guitar hero II,80s,III play them daily but find the fact that the speed vs complexity lets them down for me.

To counteract the issues of control format im taking the style away from the standard instruments and placing the user in a unique enviroment.
