Vista 2 will supposedly be released in the second half of 2009. It will feature touch screen technology.

Methinks after Vista, Vista 2 will be the last thing I would want to install. :/

How can an operating system feature touch screen technology?

good question, since really if you have vista or xp on a tablet PC, surely that's touch screen technology?

It's probably referring to support for a multi-touch setup (which tablet/tablet PCs do not support afaik), although last I heard Apple owned a patent for that?

On another note, I still can't see the need for Vista2, let alone Vista itself, when XP is still receiving support, especially with SP3 on the way.

Windows 7 will also, according to Bill Gates, include "a pervasive typing line that will recognise the sentence that [the user is] typing in".
Look out. PaperClip is back ..

PAPERCLIP2(tm) "I see you are replying to a forum post. Let me help!"

Another stupid 'feature' which people will get tired of and disable.

Reminds me of the Windows ME to Windows XP path. Which means the current Vista is mearly a stop-gap beta until the fixed version is released later.
Mind you, I guess MS don't mind. Afterall, they have 88 million beta testers on board.

Hmmm, the unfortunated thing for MSoft and their killer price tag that doesn't support backwards compatibility to XP??? products - i.e. a university that educates teachers released a email to all students, vista will let you install 'old' office applications (old means, mmm ,3 to 4 years ago) with no warnings, let you input (oh, okay the uninitiated might try to do a lot of stuff without saving for a while) a substantial amount of work before informing you when you try to save for the first time :-

ooopps, MSoft have yet to develop a system test team that (might) let you know that older MSoft products are incompatible with VISTA.

LINUX, free OS will have its day if MSoft keeps this up.

I use XP now and i will see 2014 if there is somthing special. ;)

Xp or Media Center (which is XP with the Media Center application running) for me too!

IPete2.

If they've learnt from Vista and come up with a convincing multitouch system then it could be great.

Anyone using Vista (other than for testing purposes) is a moron. Install a free operating system now.

I still ask myself why they pushed Vista out even though all special features that made it usefull had to be removed like the managed kernel or WinFS to name just 2 of them ...

Vista is definitely not more than a prototype.

On the other hand, they potentially make the update free to vista owners, as Win98 SE back then as well ...
Or they adapt a more apple like price tag with 100$ each 12-15 months and totally killing the backward compatibility for ALL apps (ts those ranting about the few not working never had their fun with apples "break your way" attitude )

Do you have to be so offensive?

Gfk smells.

Was that really necessary?

I think that with the way vista is going it will be a very nice thing in the future. Most of what vista problems is the culmination of all the users problem ON THE INTERNET. Think about it, you see someone on some remote forum say,
"Vista SUckS! My games dont workz!!!"
"Have you ever updated your drivers?"
"No"

Now, it may not seem so user-friendly to talk about drivers but for the average computer user (eg. not programmer and gamer) it really doesn't matter.
As for my laptop with Vista Home Premium and 2 gb of RAM, i have noticed an increase in speed. You know how the first time you turn on your new computer its nice and fast, then the next time I gets slower, and slower, and slower...
This entropy seems to be managed better and that rate of decline is a lot less steep.

I'm not going to say vista (or any OS for that matter) is flawless. (Im all for completely be rid of UAC).
Last time I checked, XP didn't go over so well the first time it appeared.

Thats my badly organized post for today.

Twas a joke :o) Too much IRC for me i thinks.

lol. It's difficult to remember to keep IRC talk in IRC, sometimes. :P

P.S. Ross C wears womens undergarments. It's true.
