Nooby Firefox Question

When I make a new tab it's always empty but I'd like it to have google in it. Is that possible? I look in the options but couldn't see anything suitable. Thanks!

You could type Alt+Pos1 after that to load your homepage (if google is your homepage). Besides that I'm sure someone wrote a plugin exactly for that ;)

I found this :

1. In Firefox 2.0, go to Tools>Options.
2. The Options box is opened. Click Tabbed Browsing and select the User Interface Tab.
3. In the New Tab Button section, select Browser Homepage for the When load new tabs, load the: box.
4. Click Ok.

Not sure if that helps. Doesn't work for me.

I don't see those options on mine. The closest thing I can think of without using any plugins is to go to about:config and change browser.search.openintab to true. Then, instead of clicking the new tab button (or hitting ctrl+T) you just type your search into the built in search box. When you hit enter it'll open a new tab with your search results. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but might be a viable alternative.

Alt+Home is the keyboard shortcut for going to your defined homepage. You can also put a button for it on the toolbar if it doesn't include it by default (I can't remember if it does or not).

Why not just have Google as one of your quick link buttons (in your link toolbar, under the address bar) and simply right click on it \ open in new tab.

Or just use the google toolbar that comes with firefox - that way you also get to help fund the development of firefox.

Did you know that instead of "right-click/open in new tab" you can simply middle click?

@Game Boy - I like Firefox as much as the next guy, but they're making money by the truckload. It's not like their development is starving for cash or anything.

Although it won't solve your problem, I suggest taking a look at the Mouse Gestures plugin. It's extremely useful.

@Grey: Ooops, seems like "Pos1" was a german key description. Never thought about it... ehhm, it's the numpad_7 key, the opposite of "EndOfLine". How do english keyboards name this? Begin of Line/BOL ?

Pongo: Excellent shortcut, thank God I have a middle button.

I just hit F6+Tab. Takes me right to the integrated search, so I can search on something besides Google, should the need arise.
