Suggestion for BlitzMax price raise?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Suggestion for BlitzMax price raise?
Since there's many many requests for more improvements on BlitzMax, if Mark raise the price, and he earn more, then he should happily adding those requested functions.
I'd pay extra for those enhancemants like multithreading, streaming or something whatever.
BRL is a company, and to be honest, we want BMax powerful, and hope it to be cheap, that's hard to implemnt.
As currently what I can/going-to do is to promote and suggest my friends to try/buy it and buy a copy for my little brother etc.
Maybe you're not agree, that's also OK, just express what I thought.
I think we should leave it too Mark to decide how he runs his company. If you want to buy two licences to give him more money, then your welcome too.
Yes that's just what I'm going to do.
Well, actually might be 2 or 3 licenses.
I'm planning to run a mini compo in my site, I think that's a nice price.
The site is in Chinese tho, if you want join and can read Chinese, feel free to mail me and witn the compo ;)
(note: the income was supported by adsense)
Since the split with Idigicon (must be circa 4 years), BRL have shifted about 3,000 units (BMax, B3D, B+ combined).
So, that is about a quarter of a million US dollars - about $60,000 per year. Of course that is not all profit.
A lot of those sales come from us Blitzers spreading the word. Which is why I encourage people to actually mention their games and apps are Blitz driven - there are a lot of people who keep that fact very quiet.
You Tube is a great place for people to show off their games/projects - sadly, too few Blitzers use You Tube.
Where did you get those figures from puki?
At the time of the split there were slightly less than 7,000 accounts. As of today, there are 10722 accounts.
Bare in mind that pre-split, a lot of sales were done via BRL's download option anyway.
Wonder how many are BMax?
Also, bare in mind the prices might have gone down - I seem to remember Blitz3D being $150 at some point - it is now $100. My calculations are based on current prices.
Most sales come from blitzers spreading the word.
Might have to do with the fact that BRL does not do any advertisement and is not interested in the same as well, otherwise they would have used the near-perfect advertising possibilities. (Gile[s] is B3D, show me something better they could have used to show of their technology instead of "offering" it to TGC!!)
BRL does not seem to be interested in becoming much more known, more broadly used and especially beeing forced to get a larger team to handle the thing more like a "larger company"
I uploaded this a year ago:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uuccl9ywyKQViews: 3,634 - I think it is the most viewed Blitz video of its type.
I get a lot of e-mails from people who want to be my friend, etc, etc.
That figure you give must me a minimum then, as an account might have more than one product registered too it. I have BlitzMax and Blitz3D on my one account.
Yeh, I reckon it is $250,000 to circa $400,000.
EDIT:
Again, baring in mind this is sales figures not profit figures.
Is youtube a good way of promoting projects? I never thought of that, I'll have to look into this. I might upload a few of the videos from my website. I've always thought Blitz should be more well known among digital artists because it's a very flexible tool (as opposed to trying to make an engine like Unreal do what it was never meant for, what I see a lot.)

Functionality gets added as it is needed in order to continuously drive sales. If the price went up, there would be less of an incentive for BRL to provide extra features, as they would have to sell fewer copies to maintain their current profits.
As currently what I can/going-to do is to promote and suggest my friends to try/buy it and buy a copy for my little brother etc.
That might be counterproductive as to what you're trying to achieve.
Also, bare in mind the prices might have gone down
I don't think they did, it's just that the dollar is worth less now.

I wouldn't have thought places like YouTube and MySpace were good ways to promote anything. But what the hell do I know?
YouTube is certainly a great way to show a game in action rather than screenshots... and a great way to save on bandwidth costs.
I thought youtube was full of people watching free version of concerts/movies/tv episodes?
My youtube video has ~30 more views than that, puki :).
Repeatedly watching your own video to boost its views doesn't count
:)

I remember seeing a set of Blitz logos ages ago. Can't find it anymore tho. Anyone know where I can download them?? I want to put a Blitz3D logo on my games loading screen ;)

Wow, that video is really impressive.
Looks amazing.
i just phoned my car insurers and asked them to raise my costs because it's christmas and they need my money more than me ;-)
seeing as we dont pay for any upgrades just the one off payment (unless its changed since i last dl'd an update) upping the price to get more features etc done only harms new buyers as we all get the upgrades free
just like no one likes to buy something expencive only for it to go down alot in price the next week
if they need more money they can always make new modules, like they did with MaxGUI. Otherwise we can just buy extra copies if we really want to give them money.

Even when they do that you get people going "I bought Maplet 27 years ago, do I get this free or am I expected to pay AGAIN?"
BRL should add a 'donate' button. That way you can give them more money if you don't think you've paid enough. I bet you anything it would rarely be used, if at all. Saying you think BRL deserve more cash is one thing - actually handing it over is quite something else.
i got an album for nowt a month or so ago (not a pirate) from his official website
it had 2 options
"give me it free"
and "ill give you some money you deserve it"
i chose give me it free for a few reasons
99% of my album mp3's are ripped from cd's so i dont rebuy mp3's of albums i own ... when i see it in the shops then ill buy it
and the payment options would involve me setting up a paypal or similar account
but i wonder how many people paid for that album given the choice of free (albeit a lower bit rate but 192kbps is fine for me)
Also, if they were worried about money they wouldn't allow licence transfers. So I doubt giving them more money would make any difference to how the products are developed.

Radiohead? I hear they made more money off their recent album, than all the other Internet sales for all the other Radiohead albums put together. Roughly 3 million USD.
