Wii head tracking
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Wii head tracking
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uwok, perhaps some've seen it yet. But for those who didn't: enjoy!
(ho ho ho!)
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=74588But thanks for pointing this guy out again, because the head tracking wasn't done when I saw the previous thread and this is seriously cool, definitely something I'll want to play with myself.
I just got my wiimote to work in windows, won't be bothering with tracking.
Looks amazing - this is what I see as true next generation. Together with the Wii remote motion sensor abilities, I'm sure that this could lead to new gaming opporunities - just like with the transformation from 2D to 3D with PS1/Saturn/N64.
not bad ;)
I estimate it's not all heaven. I might very well work for 2d images in 3d space. But how about 3d images in 3d space? If you rotate a cube, and move your head, you may see the cube rotate as well, but the cube as a whole is still a flat object.
Could be wrong tho.. :P
You are wrong. :)
I think I get what you are saying (although shapes will change appropriately for the movement of your head, you won't get the 3D effect of stereoscopic vision,) but you are underestimating the importance of the visual cues this provides for seeing things in 3D.
Does anyone know how to get this working with BlitzMax? I will be experimenting with this myself in just a few days (away from home until then) but in the meantime I'm curious if anyone has any insight that could give me a headstart.
Once you get the computer treating the Wiimote as an HID it might be similar to other joystick devices. Try using joystick commands to see how it works.
I have been messing with my Wiimote on my PC for the last few days now, great fun and lots of opportunities!
So...I thought hey, if I can wrap this C++ library to a Blitz DLL - Blitz games using the wiimote - awesome!
So...about 20hrs faffing around with code later - I`m not really any closer.
I can compile it to a DLL and the I exported 2 functions CreateWiimote() and DeleteWiimote() which both seem to work fine from Blitz - this is as far as I have got....and I think I`m stumped!
My C++ is novice at best and I think its a bit beyond me if I`m honest, but I don`t mind learning as I muddle through.
So if anyone is interested in helping me out or doing anything really - get in touch - especially all you DLL Wrapper Writers who know what your doing!
This would be awesome in Blitz as you could knock out some excellent demos using physics (toka/ode etc) and Blitz would take out the headache of making the game, leaving you to concetrate on gameplay and interaion from the wiimote.
Add me to MSN if u are interested in help/helping, a chat or anythin...: rik187@...
Ordered a wiimote yesterday, darn delivery time...
That is awesome. Thanks alot for posting this! :)
Good stuff...
