3d Networked Wargame Facilitator?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/3d Networked Wargame Facilitator?

Does anyone know of any of these. Something that simply allows players to place/remove/reposition pieces on a 'tabletop' as well as chat to them online with or without dice rolling features? Also something generic that allows the user to supply their own 'content' whether they be 3d models and/or billboards.

I've seen a work in progress flash based DBx (De Bellis Antiquatitus/Multitudinis/Hordes of the Things) facilitator but am looking for something which is complete and more customisable.

There used to be a game/program called 'The War Engine' but it is no longer for sale anywhere which is similar to what I'm after.

If none exists I may have to create my own, (or maybe there are others who would like to?)

However if anyone knows of one of these I'd like to see it.

Thanks,
Matt

Are you aware of VASSAL?

In addition to vassal there is also cyberboard.

Both are excellent tools, and both are free.

Finally there is ADC, which is $50 or so and although it is good is not really worth a premium over the free ones.

Whoops, I just noticed the 3D bit. Neither Cyberboard or Vassal are 3D

Thanks I'll have a look at those, despite not being 3d. I'd heard of cyberboard but not vassal.

EDIT - had a brief look. They are very good although I wonder how well they would play a game like DBM which is more of a tabletop wargame with fancy scenery and non-grid based movement.

Vassal should be the better of the two for that type of game. I know it has a couple of miniatures type modules for it already, but I'm not sure how the implemented it. Other then the Car Wars mod (Road Rage), take that one apart to see how they handled free form movement.
