What do you think of Crysis multiplayer?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What do you think of Crysis multiplayer?

I thought this would be sort of a realistic strategic combat thing, but my impression is it is like Quake 3 on speed. Has anyone really gotten into it? I'd like to think it has some deeper mechanics going on, but so far my experience has just been run, get killed. No teamplay or strategy to speak of.

Red Orchestra was the most difficult online game to learn, but I did not feel like there was nothing there, even though I got killed a lot at first.

My computer, running crysis? Not so much.

I haven't played it yet, but if it's similar to Quake 3 in terms of speed, then I suspect I'll be happy. That or if it's similar to FEAR- that game had some amazing deathmatch.

I find that like with most MP games it all comes down to who your playing with. Often single player can be better than MP just because the computer AI is more interesting and sadly also more intelligent.

Worse multiplayer than FarCry I think.
At the moment, its hard for most games to outperform Red Orchestra, Team Fortress 2 and a few others for me.

I don't understand why almost every game which starts as a single player game must have a multiplayer option. If i want to play a multiplayer game i would just buy that. If i want a single player game, i prefer if they would have invested the ressources into adding another levels instead or make the product cheaper.

I don't need a single player campaign in UT07 and i don't need a multiplayer option in Crysis.

multiplayer encourages people that might have pirated the game to buy it. it also means you can dedicate less time to making single player missions.

I don't see how this serves my interests as a customer...

RO has so much emergent behavior that I have never seen in any other game. That was the game that taught me how important cover and staying low is. I wish something new would come out that had this same kind of gameplay, with updated graphics.

RO ?
wtf is RO?

Red Orchestra. If you'd read the first post, you'd probably have known that...

Problem with RO is that it's very, very slow and very, very boring. It takes too long to shoot people and I don't even get a rocket launcher.

multiplayer encourages people that might have pirated the game to buy it.
How do you figure that? If I've pirated a game (let's say Crysis) and purely hypothetically enjoy playing the single player campaign, and the multiplayer part is a bit rubbish, why would that encourage me to buy it? I already got the good bits for free!

RO is slow, and that's what makes it good. You have to plan your attacks carefully. And when you get a kill, it is a real acheivement! That game given me more excitement than any other game...all the combat situations that occur are amazing.

You tell a couple teammates to follow you, then you go as a squad and flank the enemy's position, sneak into a bunker or something and take them out one by one.

Being pinned down by MG fire and snipers and advancing slowly from cover to cover. You all run as a group and 1 or 2 guys don't make it each time.

We have very heated arguments about which objectives to defend, and what the enemy will do next. The slow speed of the action means that tactics decide who will win, not twitch reactions. Combat skill still matters, but good shooters with no strategy will lose.
