AS Protect?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/AS Protect?

Are there any people here who use ASPRotect from starforce?

I tried the demo and it was perfect for what I needed so bought the full version.

I need to know if anyone has the BlitzMax, Blitz3D versions of the API calls. I'll try and convert them myself but I'm not good at understanding C++ or C. They do have a delphi version which looks easier so I'll start with that but in the meantime if anyones already converted the ASProtect API calls to blitzMax or B3D the please share.

:)

This StarForce? Same one that created unusual copy protection and distributed pirated software?

I think it is them, yes!

This is their website http://www.star-force.com/

I got the email with my reg key from ASProtect@....

I don't see what the problem is. I know what starforce is because I have a few games protected with StarForce. Also, it was the cheapest protection system I could find that would help me prevent casual piracy.

I can't afford Armadillo/Software Passport so went with AS Protect.

If by "unusual" you mean "responsible for destroying my $300 USD DVD Burner", then I don't think they're the same. Although I could be mistaken. Best not to take any chances with my NEW $300 USD DVD Burner.

EDIT:
Also, it was the cheapest protection system I could find that would help me prevent casual piracy.
It'll also help you prevent casual sales.

I just found out that AS Protect was not created by the starforce guys. They bought the company which made it.

AS Protect isn't even as good as Armadillo/Software Passport but atleast i can have some sort of protection on my exe's.

Also it's not the CD-Rom Based STarForce protection which everyone, including FlameDuck and his $300 DVD Burner :), hate so much.

No one's going to buy anything I make anyway. :)

If it installes a driver it is as worse as star force itself ... any copy protection with a rootkit level driver is a serious security issue, not a protection and therefor needs to be boycotted. (more and more are learning it and are patching out that piece of shit)

It doesn't install a driver from what I've read on the private forums. It's basically the same as armadillo and does what that does. It supports registration keys, time limited play, activation and hardware locking etc.

It's not perfect but it stops your average joe gamer from sharing his key which is what I need.

I still need help from anyone who may be using ASProtect with BlitzMax.

Please email me (email in my profile) or post here.

As most portals prefer armadillo, I don't think anyone ported the API of ASProtect yet ... especially since Grey Aliens framework includes the Armadillo Part from what I've seen ...

It will also cause a lot of less-than-average-joes from even trying your game, since starforce itself has such an unsavory repotation.

(Not just preventing you from copying starforce protected games, but also screwing around with general CD/DVD burning altogether on starforce-infected computers)

there's no way I'll knowingly install anything remotely starforce-related on my computer, and I know I'm far from along in that respect.

Starforce was installed by one of the games that came free with my new graphics card. The game didn't work, because Starforce wasn't compatible with Vista, it said.

I uninstalled the game, but Starforce remained and I could find no uninstall option. Each time I switched my PC on, I got an error message about it. I only managed to get rid of it after some googlage and downloading a removal tool for it.

Curses to the damn thing.
