Typing speed for Vista

Hi all,

If your typing speed is above average, this will be a problem in Vista! (even you adjust settings of keyboard in control panel!)

eg. if you type "sammy", when you type double "mm", you must stop between letters. Other you will miss one letter! It seems that there is delay in keyboard typing in Vista.

Or did I miss something?
(You could feel that there is a very short temp. delay between each letter when you type. Do you?)

I can type nearly 100 words/minute and don't have any problems when typing in Vista.

What do you call "above average"?

My pc has 2G RAM for Win Vista home edition and still have this problem. Why?

Nope, all works fine - Athlon XP3000+ @ 2.16GHz, 1GB RAM, Vista Home Premium.

On some foreign keyboards you can have keyboard combos to get characters. I wouldnt have thought it would effect normal letters though. I do know it causes chaos with several symbols on my swedish keyboard if i dont choose "Swedish, eliminate-deadkeys, PC-105" as my keyboard (on linux anyway). On Windows i think it must call deadkey boards "Extended" ones, eg: "swedish - sami extended" in 'Keyboard-type:IME' control.

I dont think US or UK keyboards have these issues.

If you have an Acer laptop, be prepared to have problems, they have a bad driver that completely misses letters.

Yes, I'd be either blaming the hardware, the connection type (PS2/USB/Bluetooth, unlikely if USB) or the drivers. If it's a laptop, probably the drivers. Since you apparently don't have this problem under non-Vista OS, probably drivers. Or one of those dead key things, whatever.

I tried to connect a USB keyboard and could type as usual.
It was the problem of Acer laptop keyboard or drivers.

Sorry to dig up a month old thread - but my new laptop exhibits this problem.

Although it isn't a fantastic solution, I've found that when I switch off the ALPS Touchpad, the keyboard lag disappears completely.

Unfortunately, I use the Touchpad quite a lot so this is really only a short-term solution. I've tried disabling various features of the touchpad but nothing seems to help unless I switch it off completely.

I'm messing with the ALPS drivers now to see if I can work out a permanent fix but its not looking good at the moment...

[edit] still having a problem. however, i've noticed that everything works perfectly if i leave the touchpad enabled but don't use it. Because of where its located (in front of the keyboard), if I accidentally catch it when I'm typing, sometime within the next couple of key presses i'll get about a half-second lag, then its fine again until the next time I use the touchpad.

At least now I know what causes it, it'll be a bit easier to avoid...
