I thought I was going blind...

from too much staring at a screen because I was having real trouble reading the tiny text on my Macbook Pro (damn these super hi-res screens, I still use my PC in 1024x768), but then I checked the brightness setting and realised that someone has been messing with it as it was right down low. Now I can see fine wooo, and I'm no longer paranoid that I've been drinking too much tainted vodka.

Anyway, some of you must be reading some tiny text with modern TFTs with super natural res, or you've boosted up the font size. Problem is lots of web pages look screwed up with a different font size don't you think?

In opera you an zoom into pages rather than just making the text bigger. so it keeps it looking ok.

I started to run Opera at 150% zoom on my laptop display. I also set Windows to 120DPI to make all text a little bigger.

Then my eyesight improved again so I've switched it all back to normal. Must have had something in my eye or a small infection which caused some swelling in or around the lens in my left eye. I thought my eyesight was going bad at first, but it only happened suddenly a few weeks back.

I digress.

I hook my laptop to the 24" monitor most of the time and I have no problem reading text on that monster :)

Squeezing 1920x1200 into a 17" display does cause things to be a bit teeny.

You can even zoom source code in Blitz. I was utterly, utterly excited when I found this out - I spent a few minutes contstantly zooming my source code in and out.

Grey, if you are using a Mouse with a Scrolly, you might find Control-Scroll interesting ;-)

On my work laptop, HP8510p, I am using the standard resolution of 1680x1050 without any adjustments on the 15.4" screen if I am in the field away from the office, at my work desk I have a 24" hp monitor at 1920x1200. And on my desktop at home, I am using 1920x1200 without any adjustments on my 24" samsung.

I have no problems reading the text unless I have spent all day in front of the screen, then it gets a bit fuzzy, but as long as I take a break every now and then, I have no issues at all.

I work with IT Support, so most of my day is spent with computers, but luckly some tasks require me to get up and take a walk every now and then.

I now run at 1280x1024 on a 19" non-widescreen LCD, but had to spend about an hour tweaking all the various font, window element sizes, icon sizes and gamma corrections for things to be properly visible. Without those tweaks I still won't go over 1024x768.

I run my screen a tad darker than 'normal' because on the default settings the white window backgrounds come across too bright and strain my eyes.

Back on my 17" CRT I used to run my desktop at 912 x x 684 (halfway inbetween 800x600 and 1024x768) because 1024x768 was to much eyestrain.

Brucey: Macbook pro = 1 button mouse :-( However, I do know about the hold Ctrl (I think) and slide fingers to zoom screen in+out, this is cool sure. But then you have to zoom out later when you task swap so it's not so cool.

Yeah I run my 19" CRT a bit darker than normal too. 1024x768 is just perfrect on it. I'm sitting maybe 2ft away.

Some do, tho I'm more concerned about shoddy programs that don't adjust properly.


Well, 1680x1050 is a pretty common res on a 22" LCD... the text might be smaller than on my crappy old 19" CRT, but hell this thing is so damn crisp compared to that old heap of junk I can read anything. This monitor makes me feel invincible.

But I guess after I had a 1600x1200 dell notebook years ago with 15" it isn't a that large problem anymore ...

and it makes sure that your GF etc won't be looking over your shoulders, they can't read that much anyway ...

And I have more space for Blide / Eclipse / VS 2005 / VS 2008 with there "full layouts" to work ...

I just use the default size on my MacBook Pro here. Probably doesn't help that I'm already used to it since the size of the font physically is the same as my 17" LCD monitor.
(screen resolutions being 1440x900 and 1280x1024 respectively)
