What Blitz Project are you going to finish in 2008
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What Blitz Project are you going to finish in 2008
Similar to another thread, but with a Blitz spin, what outstanding project are you working on which you hope to finish in 2008. Myself, I am writing a game which I first started in 2004 :)
Over to you guys/girls
none!
I'm going to complete the vision I began in 2001!!! Details of the project will be released soon.
By "projects" are you only referring to games? I use Blitz all the time for interactive artwork (wrapping up one project in Blitz3D, everything after that is using BlitzMax) but I haven't coded a game really in a while.
Hey Joe, not only game, really anything to do with Blitz in fact. You interactive artwork sounds interesting :)
id actually like to start one ;)
A few of us at syntaxbomb are working on games with a deadline of August 2008, with the aim of getting some of them released on portals. No prizes, we're kinda doing it to draw motivation from each other and see what happens.
I have a couple of projects on the boil just now and I've decided what my next one will be. But I'm saying nothing. I shouldn't bother trawling the site for clues either, cos you won't find any. Haven't spoken about it to anyone yet. :)
I haven't even started mine yet, still waiting on completing college before I begin to make my ideas happen.
(which'll be a traditionally animated fast-paced platformer, and I mean really fast-paced, Sonic on steriods, etc)
Well i would hope to finish my game soon, but am not soo sure if it will happen as soon as i would hope..
I SHOULD be done with a game i have been working on for months now some time in 2008.
It is an over the head freeroamer game, that allows you to walk all across a virtual city and fool around. Whether it be steal some booze from the local grocery store, steal from a bank, go on a shooting rampage, or even go to your work as a normal, honest citizen. :)
I am hoping it will be as fun as i think it will.
The reason i am delving into it so much is that it is my first REAL game, second, i suppose, if you count Pong.
But this is the first made by me, and i cant wait! :)
I'm aiming to finish my vehicle physics game - PolyManiacs in the next 3-4 months, maybe sooner. Should have a new demo out in January at some stage.

Sounds like a great idea!
Nothing firm yet but at the very least I would want to get two commercial games made, one for the summer and one for Christmas (not a seasonal game though, I'm not making any more of those). With any luck I would like to push that up to 3. Any more and I'd have to start being a producer so I could manage several projects at once as coding games takes too long...
Oh I ought to say that I'll get a platformer done for fun next year too ;-)
I hope to finish my game engine in 2008. I don't expect to finish a game which uses the Game Engine until 2009 at least, but it would be nice to think that the game engine will be relatively complete in 2008, as that's where the majority of the coding will be. From there on, it's just design, graphics, and writing. The only programming at that stage will be lua scripting. No deadlines though, because there's no point. So we'll just have to see. ( as opposed to it'll be done when it's done, which is officially a 3D Realms trademark, I think. )

I'm one of them. Lots of potential projects - but when there's a deadline. I have only one. Concentrates the mind, and any indie gamer project where everybody releases at the same time will attract interest.
Hello.
Larn.
Goodbye.
WTF??!!
SoggyP: Have you tried ULarn?
Hello.
Yes, of course! :o) Strangely, it doesn't have the charm of the 'original' Amiga Larn and I quickly got bored. I still find it amusing to think I've got super-powered PC's all of which I use to emulate an Amiga so I can play Larn on.
My life is surprisingly full other than that :o)
Y'know, I might just get round to doing a version of it. Just for fun.
Goodbye.
So what's that got to do with this thread?
Finish a game that may make it into AFormats top 50 freeware / shareware ables! I think it's pretty outstanding so far.....
My current projet should be done in early Feb.
As good as Naked War John?
I hope to get Elite Multiplayer at least into Beta by the end of 2008 ;)
EdzUp: I am interesting in every Elite game.A demo link in your site is broken. Could please provide us with a demo if this is possible?
Edit: I started Unlimited Drop Pro, a 3D level editor (wxWidgets & Blitz3D SDK). I hope to finish it at the end of 2008.
A 2D space shooter with cel-shaded rendergraphics. Could be that I'm doing it with the GameMaker Pro though.
early next year I will release my first game. Its very playable now but i want to add more levels and extras. my syndicate project is moving on to max at some point and havent desided what engine to use, so could be out next year its at a stage where i have all the media done and alot of code but it need a better engine to get the number of animated meshs working at a good fps.
a 2D puzzle game. No Match-N, no clone. The folks I showed my proof of concept prototype couldn't stop playing, so hopefully this gonna be a hit, but I try to keep things low. If we get this finished, that alone would be a success!
Hope to finish my Voxel based World editor
Definitely will finish a patcher application but I am only part of the programmers doing that one.
Above that, I will perhaps continue to work on Kamaya, the 2D game creation framework for BM which includes editors, networking, a scene graph and a few other things ...
I have a short Zelda-style adventure that's nearing completion. I also have a board game I just started working on. Thanks to Grey Alien's framework, it's moving VERY quickly, so it might actually beat the adventure game out the door.
Nothing. Except possibly accidentally. Too much money in Java/.Net.
@Dreamora: any idea on the price tag for your Kamaya framework? I'm not using BlitzMax for game programming right now because GameMaker delivers most of the tools and functionality already.
Hopefully something in 2008. I have the time, tools, skills and financial resources. Just lacking focus at the moment. Doing lots of coding lately but ... 'Too many irons in the fire.'
my first game will be finished in early 2008. i am developing it since 2005 (my first contact with blitz). fingers crossed ;)
Probably many small ones.
My space game Pioneer!
Early screenshot:

Still loads to do, but it's come a long way in a few months :)
For me its my (Disgaea, fftactics) clone Areonx.
Ive been working on this in one form or another now for 2-3 years while ive been teaching my self to programme in (blitz3d/blitzmax),3dmodel,animate (2D&3D),now moving into the music/soundeffects area
Just recently Ive gone parttime to help me develope my true calling since being a retail manager isnt my dream job :)
anyways Im putting 70hrs a week into this baby to give me the heads ups and tracking for first demo to be released feb 2008..
here wishing us all GOODLUCK (ill need it :])
@PIXELstir: The idea was to make it affordable.
But as it is not even near finished (out of my view), it makes no sense thinking about a potential price right now.
here wishing us all GOODLUCK (ill need it :])
Oh come on. You can't possibly need EVERYONES good luck! :o>
We need incentive, why not hold a blitz games awards ceremony in Late 2008 to give people something to push for.
They'll be celebrities, cheerleaders, beer, fair ground rides.
Okay, maybe just beer, in a pub, in Doncaster (but that's still glamorous)

not Doncaster! :-P
Aymes, not seen THAT image before, I bet that's a killer test of your skills!!!
for us, Flow+FlowED.
Okay, not Doncaster (that was the onyl blizcon I ever went to), but maybe somewhere else? Preferably in the UK as most Blitzers live here. Other nominees can join in over a webcast.
Birmingham? :-P
(seriously. Anywhere but Doncrapster. I mean Doncaster.)
Birmingham would be good, just a quick scoot up the A14 and M6 for me, if anyone here happens to live in Birmingham and has a giant house, that'd be perfect.
My house aint huge, but it's not small. 3 bedroomed and all that. Plus I can't afford the party stuff so we'll have to rely on Puki for sausage rolls.... :-P
I mentioned Birmingham before but its difficult for people like Jake to make it from the coast. Ticket prices are through the roof!!!
I can make it if need be :-) 3 hours by car + hassle finding venue (driving in Brimingham is poo) or train (no idea how long)
Considering I'll have massive time on my hands when I get to Korea, I'm looking at having my 2D puzzle game finished in the 3rd quarter of 2008. It's not match3 but it is matching in a sense.
The cool thing is I'm getting a wacom intuos 6x8 tablet and painter X (or just use my paint shot pro 9) and I'm gonna do all the graphics myself. The sounds will be courtesy of sound rangers. I really like those guys. I want it to be casual but not mind numbingly repetitious. Now there's a hard medium to find!
Well, I should finally get my
Rockfall DX game out in the early part of 2008. Just putting the finishing touches to the level editor, before tweaking the existing levels and adding new ones. I now also have an artist working with me, so the game will take on a whole new look before release.
I also hope to get another game out by the end of the year, although I'm not sure what yet. Whatever it is, it won't (shouldn't) take as long to put together as Rockfall did!
Moraldi if you go to www.edzup.co.uk and join the forum then post in the alpha test forum. Once added to the Elite Multiplayer alpha team you have to agree to the rules then you can download the demo.
Hey, it's done when it's done, already!
Seriously though, I'm not sure really, I hope I'll get *something* finished in 2008, or at least a major chunk of it done. I'm so jealous that Grey has like 4 or 5 products out already.
I'm working mainly on a shootemup at the moment, but more of the engine than the game at present. Trying to make a massive, yet efficient, particle system.
Leadwerks Engine 1 & 2, and Leadwerks Editor.
Hopefully I will find the time and energy to continue on RRFM.
