DirectX10 force you to upgrade to VISTA!!!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/DirectX10 force you to upgrade to VISTA!!!

Hi all,

Yesterday, I downloaded DirectX10 (nov 2007) sdk and tried to run directx10 on a xp with Geforce 8400GS. It turns out that all the directx10 samples gave me the same message windows...

Could not initialze Direct3D 10. This application requires a Direct3D 10 class device (hardware or reference rasterizer) running on Windows Vista (or later).

You must have Vista to run DirectX10 new features!!!
No Vista, no way.

Oh my god!

Some people have got DX10 running on XP using hacks or something, but Microsoft made DX10 Vista only to get people to upgrade.

Thats something known for years now happy, sorry.

And no you don't need it because with your card you can not run DX10 games with more than 2FPS anyway.

Don't worry about it. From what I hear directx 10 is nothing special. Stick to DX 9 for now.DX9 will be the mass market platform of choice on PC for years to come yet.

I just lol'd. At first I thought this was a 2 years old post coming back from the underwolrd of the BB forums. But that actually somebody (a programmer!) doesn't know that DX10 is Vista only... That's just too funny...

PIXELstir: I just did exactly the same thing as you :)

DIJ might mean ALKY..

It's partially working actually, anyway it's actually pretty safe, only a few DLLs copied to your system.

I don't know if ALKY for Games will ever been finished tho.
