Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Encription software

..im looking for encryption software, for Hard drive, so basically, when I turn off my machine things are encrypted or something, and next day I turn it on, I have to give some password or whatever that system using as a security approach in order to reach my HD data and use it as I want...is there such thing, freeware and if not, best commercial solution??

If you have XP Pro, use the encrypted file system.

Otherwise there are different other solutions like TrueCrypt and the like.

Safeboot is a sub-OS layer realtime encryption filter, about as secure as it gets but is probably expensive and may be overkill for private use.

RT encrytion filters will slow down your PC though, and can make data recovery much more difficult.

Lol, nice one.

PGP makes a product similar to Safeboot called PGP Whole Disk Encryption. It works great. It's $149 for a perpetual license. There will be some amount of slowdown, though, so I wouldn't put it on a gaming PC. If all you do is business, or the typical email/word processing/web browsing thing, it would be fine.

Another option is Seagate, who makes hard drives with hardware-based encryption built in.

I use TrueCrypt on one of my usb keys, its double layer encryption is pretty cool (plausible denyability and all).
highly recommended!
