Need faster mouse pointer in windows!

Is there any way to make the mouse pointer move faster than the maximum speed setting in windows? A registry entry I could modify or something?

I've got a new trackball mouse and want to use it for gaming. The thing is, I have the mouse settings in the control panel at maximum speed, and it's not fast enough. I DO have the "enhance pointer precision" box ticked, and I know that unticking this makes the mouse considerably faster, but it also makes things too imprecise. It seems that the enhance pointer precision adjusts the distance of the mouse moved based on the speed it is moved - so when the mouse is moved slowly, it moves it fewer pixels per mouse movement, and when the mouse is moved quickly, it moves the mouse farther per mouse ball unit moved. (er, hope that makes sense)

Unchecking it makes the pointer update the same amount regardless of the speed you are moving the mouse, and when I've got it set as fast as I'd like, it's just too hard to make the tiny tiny movements needed on the trackball to move the mouse only a few pixels.

Just wondering if there's any way I can speed this thing up. Please don't suggest going back to a regular mouse. I may end up doing that but want to give the trackball a go, first.

Get any drivers with it?

Well, I adjusted the DPI to 200 in the driver settings.

I guess I should have searched a bit more before posting. I found the Mouse registry entries under HKEY_CURRENTUSER and have been experimenting in there.

It's much better now, although I'm still having a hard time finding the perfect trade off between speed and accuracy. Well, at least I've got a much wider range of choices now.

200DPI is woefully low, no wonder you're having problems! Sounds like you bought the wrong trackball.

Are you absolutely sure you require a trackball? They're all well and good, but their gaming performance is notably poor. I think the most sensitive trackball I ever saw was 800DPI (A Microsoft one, as I recall).

If you want a good gaming mouse, and you have plenty of cash, searh for Evoluent Vertical Mouse. I've been using one for a few months and not only has it almost completely cured my tendonitis (RSI), it's the most sensitive mouse I've ever known (2600DPI).

Well, it's not any hardcore gaming - just playing some Puzzle Pirates at the moment. :P

I really like my new trackball for everything except gaming so far. I didn't get it as a gaming mouse or anything, and will probably switch back to my old one, but I just wanted to see how accurate I could get with my thumb. If I like the basic idea of it, I'll have to look for one of those higher DPI trackballs.

I used to dominate in starsiege: tribes with my logitech trackball and the sniper rifle. Took me months to get good with it, but I still think it ended up better than a normal mouse.
