It was a great machine - just before the end of Commodore, I brought a couple of C64's - cant remember why though...

It was the first machine that I wrote programs for (a Mastermind type game, Walker - no, not that one, and a couple of 2D shoot-em-up's - its the only machine that I've completed a shoot-em-up for).

6510 assembler was so easy to get the hang of (only ARM comes that close), and could show of the power of the machine.

The Spectrum ruled the world - I had mine stuffed and mounted.

MrTaToad , it IS a great machine with a lot of fan groups worldwide. ;) There are still lot of peoples developing hard and software mags etc...

I only used Basic on the C64. The 68000 in the A1000 was my step into assembler and this was a wonderful world!

I had a Spec and then a C64. BASIC was better on the Spec. Did assembly on both (more on C64), then got an Amiga which rocked of course.

So 25 years hey? Blimey shows my age.

68000 was nice too (being an enhancement of the 6510 processor).


Indeed - there are a few Retro magazines around. I decided a clean break was needed when I moved from the C64, so I dont code anything again.

I still have my C64 :)
And my C128, C64 (new style) and the rest of the Commodore machines of that era (C16... Blurgh!)
Only one I never managed to get hold of was the C64 luggable... They always ended up very expensive on ebay :(

I allso still have some Commodore machines.

Ive always wanted an sx-64 (luggable), but i did manage to get a C128D which is pretty rare.

I have also my good old C64 with a 1541, and my old PII/366 Laptop as second drive (that is my 6GB FloppyDisk ^^ )

Taumel, but he moved to sampling. Like the Ensoniq Mirage... :(

But they also did synthesizers, i for instance had an ensoniq vfx. Sounded great but the handling could have been better.

could anyone looking for the "SID" sound pick up the VFX and recreate it?

I suppose with samples, you could always do. I'm a big fan of this sound. I'm a big fan of chip music!

Out of the box as the VFX sounded not like the SID but it shared some characteristics like a warm and touching sound for instance. Beside of that it was a synth, so...
