thread necromancy

Does anyone else feel like a lot of really old threads have been coming up? I mean, certainly a couple sections of the forum move really slow so it's not surprising (I'm thinking Blitz3D Tutorials,) but in many cases it's someone dredging up a thread from years ago.

Partly this bothers me because of how confusing it can be when some posts were so long ago, and partly this bothers me because I still recognize these threads from when they were first posted.

I find this happens most often in Graphics Showcase and Content Creation. Elsewhere, not so much.

It's not a problem if the new reply is useful. In fact, it sometimes brings useful or interesting topics to the attention of newer members. I only have problem with it when people drag up years old threads only to add "lol", a smiley, or something equally meaningless. Fortunately, this doesn't really happen here.

The correct solution is people should make a new thread then include the link to the actual thread in their post.

I have been bringing up a bunch of old threads that have missing zips, such as pongo's spec map thread.

I think this is the good thing about forums, discussions like this are still valid and have good info in it, and I prefer to write in an old thread that has alot of context, than to start a new one and have to link back to it.

What we really need is somekind of onboard hsting on this forum, or a dedicated Blitz resources website, that people can uplaod thier stuff too and its kept forever. Rather than the hundreds of useful and dead links lying in some of the best threads around.

I don't have a problem with people bringing up old threads with regards to programming threads, and people looking for resources. But kinda annoys me in the creation forums. Someone bringing up old projects to say "That looks cool"

if it was the content creator or programmer announcing an upgrade then it would be ok to have a bump post instead of however many threads about the same thing

although it would be nice if the first post says "edit: new version online" cos when you click a thread you start at the top not at the newest post

Well, yeah, it does make me feel sorely tempted to find the oldest thread I can and add a "*lol*" to it.

I dont care as long as its worthwhile post added, but i agree with puki its better to do it like puki said. That way it starts all fresh and new and clean and not full of old LOLs that are now smelling as cheezy as yesterdays socks.

In a sense this is true, since I posted this while bored and just felt like musing. I hope nobody thought I'm chastising this behavior, I'm just curious if anyone is noticing anything unusual. I've been away from these forums for a while and now coming back I notice a lot of old threads. *shrug* It would have been unusual before, but maybe it's normal these days.
