end of year fatigue

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/end of year fatigue

Don't know about you guys, but this year I'm really looking forward to a long Christmas holiday (3 weeks +).

After a year of computer wrangling (both at home and at work), I'm feeling pretty burnt out. Sad thing is, I just know I'll probably spend a good part of my time off programming!

I think I will be spending my Christmas holiday (probabaly around 10 days) finishing off my work project. Ah well :)

I will spend it sleeping. Work is for suckers. Then once the holiday is over, I'll have a new roommate and I'll probably hate him.

I have 18 days off starting on the 20th. I hope to have won the lottery by the time it's over :)

Partying, sleeping and consuming lots of christmassy food and beer is what I am lining up. I'm feeling the burn too, sitting behind a PC 18 hours a day. It's time to kick back and relax.

I'm not really religious, but I do believe Christmas should be a time to catch up and enjoy time with family.

Currently have from 14th dec to New Years Day off. But I'm hoping I can get a couple of days extra in 2008 in lieu by working this weekend.

Christmas is weird for me - I like having the time off, but I don't speak to my family so I find Christmas day boring when I have to spend circa 8 hours sitting with people I never speak too.

I always cannot wait to escape and play on my pooter - my PC is one of my favourite things in life. I'm hoping my gran dies soon, then I can get a real dog.

Puki, puki puki.

Seriously - just get a wii and the excitement of golf or boxing will probably see her keel over. Then you can get a dog.

..hey Puki, you are welcome here..I have big swimming pool and there are always chicks around...:)

YEah the last couple of days I've felt like doing nothing. My latest game is done and wrapped and ready to launch, I've got other stuff that needs doing but I just feel like playing games and sleeping :-) oh and eating unhealthy (but nice) food...

You Brit people are so lucky with your long holidays, here in the USA you have to work for a year or two at a job before you even get a week or two.

*taking 4 days off for xmas*

My latest game is done and wrapped and ready to launch

I feel a twinge of jealously reading that ;-)
I'm still working on my game.

fatigue!, what's that then? :)

The last few months I've been all over the place, up at 5am, sleeping in the afternoon for a few hours, waking up with fresh new ideas, it's been great.

The only downside is when I get an email/call from a business customer asking for work on an app which means I have to load up Delphi and do serious work, it's not as much fun as creating games but it pays the bills.

Yup, I've been in buzz mode ever since I decided to give games a go, graphics, coding, music, how can you get bored when there's so much variety to do?. Some days if I don't feel like coding, I'll work on music and sound, others I'll do graphics or coding, it's great not having to just concentrate on one area.

Often my fiancée will appear at some point asking what the time is, "umm (look at the taskbar clock), it's 4:15am", no idea what the time is these days (oh there you go, it's 2:45am) as the last few weeks I've not managed more than 3 hours sleep in one go.

Creating games is so much fun because you're not just doing one thing (providing you're doing it all yourself). As I said the only interruption is when I have to get serious and do proper business work, but I'm loving my new found passion and sleep is really getting in the way.

Over the Christmas period though I plan to spend some serious time watching slushy Christmas films, drinking beer, watching more films and having a big chill out. Yeah, I think I'll grab hold of a couple of PS2 games for the my holiday fest :)

Talking of ps2 games, anyone got some suggestions of some cracking games? - The games I've completed are Area 51 (superb), Star Wars III, Prince of Persia, Buffy and spent some serious time in Burnout III and Tiger Woods PGA 2005. I've been thinking about Fight Night or Rocky. So if those can help suggest a couple of games then let me know as I fancy a good beer/play session.

Heh. Someone said 'absorption is happiness'.

Like you, I really enjoy getting into the 'what time is it and why does it matter - I've got more interesting things to do than sleep' mode of living too when I'm on holiday - but when I'm working, the 7-8 hours a day at the office can really cut into that lifestyle ;-( Frankly, work is just an imposition and a waste of my time!

I've got it down to a good balance though - arrive at work at 10am, work solidly till 5pm (I'm a graphic designer), get home eat, play a game or watch vids till 9.30pm, start coding, do half hour exercise at 10:30pm, then back to coding till 2am. Catch up sleep at weekend.

But I have noticed if I deviate even a little from that routine (neighbours making noise in the morning for example), or stay up a little later, I can go zombie - so I'm obviously at the edge of what's healthy.

yep, stroll on the christmas hols - I've geeked to the point where am on the verge of forsaking a geek job for something less geek-esque at work, then maybe I'll be more inclined to take it up as a hobby again.

My office days a 8 hour stint with 40 mins off for sport if you wish.... couldn't even be bothered with that today.

merry Christmas, it can't come soon enough!
