Stunt Pilot
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Stunt Pilot
Hi Guys,
We've just put up our first flash game, Stunt Pilot. It's not written in Blitz directly (all of the effects, game scenes, level editing etc were done in a Blitz written metadata editor) so I'm not putting it in the showcase forums.
Check it out at
Rock Solid Arcade. The site is pretty barren right now, we'll be adding to it shortly.
I'd love to know what you all think!
Excellent! Very nice! On more complex levels I would add some arrows showing the pilot the way but at the same time forcing him/her to take certain path. One can finish in free style, too, but one would be given less points in that case.
Very nice idea and good execution. I think I'll play this one a lot.

Like it! Great graphics and a fun game to boot! Always very professional Michael!
Really nice.
Yeah, this is a very nice flash game. I found the 'reversed' controls tricky to get used to, though.
Cooool
Lovely
At least as good as that one you did where you had to shoot the moving squares. :o)
Nice! The reversed controls are a bit tricky, but the whole looks very polished and slick.
Cool!, not played it yet but from the screenshot it reminds me of one of my old favorites as a kid;
"Sopwith" on my Olivetti PC1
Will defo check this out later :)
Rock Solid Arcade hey? This is an interesting development.
Looks cool. Have to check it when I'm not at work...
The thing i had to get used to was how if you hit the rings, you die. on all the games that i have played involving this type of thing, the rings did not have any collisions.
Veyr nice. The control was a bit odd at first but no real problem. Its a shame there is no collision between the next plane and the parachuting pilot :)
veeeerrrrry nice :D
Nice! Simple yet very playable.
Pretty cool :)
I really like it. The flight feels spot on.
I was right. I suck at it, but it's fun none the less. Feels like a game that's going to require some real skill/time to get good at.
So, how far did everyone get?
I got past the first balloon bonus on my one and only go, which I don't think was too bad considering I struggled to get used to the controls. :P
I'll have another play later and see if I can improve.
I had no time, so I got onto like the third level. I was supposed to be writing a paper.
Got a little way past the first balloons.
Nice game, but the controls feel inverted. I get the idea of stick forward or back, but it just doesn't feel right in a 2D game.
I personally like the inverted controls... and I didn't think the game was *too* hard, either; it just requires some getting used to. Nice job!
Great graphics, too.
I like this game. Flash is ideal for it.
I had a lot of fun. Its never gonna last me more than a couple of nights of absent minded time wasting, but it is really enjoyable.
In thinking about what I could add to it... I think the appeal is probably going to be in the sports side of it. Get highest scores and so on. Therefore...
Adding Time Trial modes is pretty much a given. Post shortest times on the net. Lovely.
Pro. One thing though, to get a chain bonus you have to boost through the rings, right? That's fine, except if you boost through only one ring during a level, you still get a chain bonus. But one ring isn't really a chain.
Thanks for all the great suggestions, guys. We'll be releasing an update in a day or two that includes among other things:
- Better instructions
- Option to reverse the controls (reversed by default)
- Remember high score on main menu
- Continue from within the game
Also, I founf myself crashing by accident on early levels, and I wated to restart quickly, but I can't access the menu from in game?
So, how far did everyone get?
On my first try, I crashed my very first plane on the very first ring because I didn't know what the controls were. I still managed to get to at least level 14 (that was the last number I saw, but I progressed a few stages beyond that). I went through at least three balloon stages. This game is fun, kind of like Sopwith or Red Baron.
Edit: Holy cow, there's boost? I was crushing the "best" times and I didn't even know there was boost. Maybe the times to beat should be a little harder.

I've found a bug. When you crash and the plane starts again, it starts spining and crashes again and again. Sometimes its possible to survive this but most offen it is not, since plane is not visible, it never shows up, but you can see that it's circling since the screen goes up and down, after some time plane has crached into the land and if you are lucky you will see this, if not you'll have no idea what happend ;) You need to reset the plane phisics after each completed level ;)
Good fun!
Controls are perfect, imho. Forward->down, back->Up - as you'd expect really.
You should sort the "Time Le" text on the balloon levels tho ;-)
Time for another go, I think...
Mike, I think your onto a winner with this it's a lot of fun, great style, presentation and controls.
Ten Thumbs Up!

Just wanted to mention this is great fun!
Any chance of an offline version? For some reason my home computer refuses to play this, I just get a white screen. I tried updating flash, but still get nothing. Other flash stuff seems to work fine.
Yeah. I'd like to see the off-line version, too.

This works well on linux in firefox (just so you know :)
Like the game, its good fun. Wish i had some heatseekers to down those damn baloons tho >:)
Nice game
I wonder if you could make a custom version for Red Bull Air Racing (pretty popular event in the UK) as a mini-game for their website?
http://www.redbullairrace.com/Might be worth a shot
dammit! you inverted the controls!
BTW there is a bit of problem with the controls, they seem to have a bit of latency, this is VERY noticeable when you die. Often your new plane comes out still doing turns.
Darkheart
Only if the mouse wonders off the window AFAIK.
dammit! you inverted the controls!
You actually have the option to invert them again under 'controls', I found the default config to be the wrong way around myself as well.
Anyway -- entertaining little flash game, looks pretty polished. I made it to level 5 myself.
Agreed the default should be for people familiar with flying games, introducing newbies to upside down controls is not a good precedent IMHO (their life may depend on it or something).
I totally understand the problems with controls for a game like this, though. I mean, when the plane flies upsidedown, the controls will be inverted, anyway.
I find the sound design way to aggressive. Up&Down steering should be switched, nice graphics, gameplay is so lala, not really exciting.
Can't believe the amount of people complaining about the controls. You do know that back (down) is up for an airplane right? Maybe it's because I've been flying RC planes and helis for 20 years, but it's all quite natural to me.
I only wish I could play it on my home computer. All I get is a blank white screen. Works great at work though.
I go with the original steering if it would be 3d but in 2d i don't think this way.
Now THIS is old school fun!!!!!!!!!!
This is fun! Reminds me of one of my favorite Amiga games, Jetstrike.
