RPG of the year poll: 1337

Heeh, bit tired so silly post time.

My game of the year this year is definately going to be The Witcher. And its been nominated for RPG game of the year. Seems like many others agree with me.



Main reason I'm posting though, is that the votes for mass effect were at a funny number.

Also wondered why the heck STALKER and hellgate london were in the list!!! I liked Stalker, but it wasn't what I'd call a RPG, and hellgate london is a joke.

Was Thong-quest 'the sniffening' in the list?

I would have clased stalker more as an FPS not RPG.

I suppose it depends where the "rol?" comes in. I always thought it was to do with "roll"-ing dice :/ Otherwise isnt every game a "role" playing game.

Hmm, some grey area needs clarity methinks.

I haven't played any "new" ones except for Eschalon Book I (BMax game in the showcase) and that totally gets my vote!

I'm very tempted by mass effect, probably will buy it before the year's out.

I'm working through the Witcher now and it's keeping me entertained. I still have my doubts about the combat (particularly how much feedback the game gives the player) - but now that I'm mid-level, the combat's becoming more interesting and satisfying.

Don't care for the amount of time I spend looking at load screens though...particulary in town.

Funny, for me Eye of the North beats everyother RPG in the list easily with exception of Mass Effect.

I'd probably vote the top two as they are there. Mass Effect is awesome, and it's certainly bigger and has a much wider scope than the Witcher. Being able to drive across planet surfaces, get out, have a shoot out with some bad guys, get back in and then carry on across the planet is pretty cool, and it does have a huge Star Wars-esque story with mucho detail and background information.

Yet still for all that, it still has a "feel" which is like a really, really souped-up version of KOTOR ( which is no bad thing, of course ) and The Witcher is just that little bit different from all the other RPG's out there.

They're really hard to compare, because although they're both very strong on story and have a lot of side quests and extras to do, combat is completely different and the scope is completely different. How do you compare exploring a galaxy with exploring a city? And ironically, the city game is probably bigger than the galaxy game.

I found it odd that Stalker qualifies as an RPG and BioShock doesn't. To me, they're both first person RPG's, but Bioshock more than Stalker.

My vote is for Mass Effect. We still haven't finished it yet. We 've just been having to much fun and don't want it to end. It is amazing. Few minor things annoy: elevators, no animation when you use Citadel transit, no saving on planets. Other than these small quibbles it may well be the "coolest" most engrossing game I have ever played.

The Witcher combat was annoying, made me stop playing in the very first part of the game. Point and click games should not require you to keep clicking.

Other than that one, I haven't played any RPGs in a while. Been too busy to really get into an RPG without it being great. I thought Witcher was it, but that combat nonsense really annoyed me. :)

I really enjoyed KOTOR, havent played Mass Effect, it sounded a lot like Kotor with vehicle driving and gears of war style combat, I didn't like Gears of War, but mostly because I had no empathy for the main characters in the game.

I'm more into History and Fantasy than scifi, so Witcher apeals to me a lot more. The reviews said that ME was quite buggy and the vehicle stuff was mostly filler that didn't really add to the game much, plus the dune like worms that appear could spawn underneath you providing instant kills and stuff.

The story is supposed to be good though. I'm reading the Witcher book at the moment, and recently watched the movie made from the polish TV series. Really interesting how the movie and game based on the book series is so similar and yet so different.

I will see if Mass Effect makes it to the PC or not, at the moment I kind of feel like I played it already, it just sounds too much like a mishmash of Biowares other scifi games, not that thats a bad thing.

Im suprised Tabula Rasa isnt higher up, i had loads of fun playing the beta. To bad i dont have time+money to invest in mmos :(

On another note, im hoping for Mass Effect on the PC. i have no love for the xbox360.

Wonder if Witcher can stay on top, Console games by Bioware should in theory sell better than a previously unknown unhyped title. Would be nice to see the Witcher win though.

It's a shame the Witcher requires so much Ram to get the loading times down to a couple of seconds. If you have less than 2gb it can easily take 10-20 seconds.

Hmm, I've got 2megs but I've got the graphics maxed and it's often taking 10-20secs per loading screen - which is really impacting my enjoyment of the game.
